John McCain met Sarah Palin only once in Feb of 08 at the Governors Assoc meeting in Washington before
he called her on the phone to talk about VP possibilities.
He met her again on Thursday Aug 28 08 in Flagstaff Az to officially invite her to be his running mate.
Is this blatant politicking on McCains part by putting his self interest of getting elected ahead
of national interest ?
Could it be that McCains camp thought that by putting a woman on the block that would attract
Clinton supporters ?
This reeks of desperation and clearly the Republican could have chosen a better qualified partner.
McCain had seen her speak and knew she was dynamic, something which he himself is not.
She provides excitement to an otherwise drab ticket.
Doesnt anyone question McCains decision making abilities when he chooses a VP that he has never worked with
and had met only briefly ? I do.
How mature of a decision was this really ? It hardly seems like a Presidential choice.
McCain wanted to make a rumble and upstage Obamas energetic and decisive presentation after the Dems party nomination.
Pathetic !

I believe the McCain camp qoute is something along the lines of we will let her speak to the press as we see fit.
She wanted to know if it would be a fruitful position.....kinda cute.

Losing really is the only way they can get out from under a looming disaster and blame it on bystanders.

The scene played out, where people in the audience held up these ugly hand painted signs that said "hockey moms 4 Palin" and the camera zoomed on it. Then Palin "improvised" the joke to everyone's delight.
She laughed and said "I love those hockey moms ... you know ... what's the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom?" ... same hilarious punchline. "lipstick"
Of course, RNC staffers were seen passing out those ugly hand painted signs ... the whole thing was scripted, even her ad libs.
I tell you ... looking at that crowd at the RNC .. I've never seen anything more terrifying in my life, as that bunch of screaming, happy imbeciles.
Political theater is much like a live movie set nowadays, where people don't realize they are part of the play. Even the excited chanting was canned, and was also being used to drown out protesters.

I'm one of those people the repubs would like to grab. I'm a stay at home mom with a college experience, worked full time for years, did the child care stuff and have my kids enrolled in private school.they really think I'm gonna vote for Palin. Um, yeah right. No way. She is fluff in my book and I can't stand her constant smilie face. This is a woman who gave birth to a disabled child and then ran for the hills (work) in 3 days flat when she didn't have to.
And she has the gall to call herself pro family. I just find her to be extremely off balance and she has nothing in common with me and I'm a baseball mom. I also find it disgusting that she is so hot for the vp job over her children and is willing to exploit them in the public eye.

McCain made the right choice no matter what you say it worked and because of her he will see the White House. I'm a Democrate and guess what after listening to her I'm voting REPUBLICIAN.
McCain speech was OK he isn't a speech maker, never has been, never will be. He covered what he needed to cover and that was what I wanted to hear.
Obama is unproven in my opinion and I'm not ready to take that risk now or in the immediate future. In 4 years after he has proven himself then maybe I will vote for him. Sorry not the one for my vote.

It was 62% and these figures are always misleading in the bigger picture. It was for disabled children in Alaska and it was last year. With such a great platform for VP she might make a change now.
MCCain and Palin are republicans but thank God they arent Bush's little henchmen.

Didn't you see the news this morning about 86,000 jobs lost this August?
Lets Talk Palin
I'll tell you why I am voting republican this year. I am so tired of being penalized for making money. I have no college education but I work hard everyday to earn what I earn only to have taxes on everything. They take 1/2 of my paycheck every month. I dont qualify fir a stimulus check, or the $7500 credit of new homeowners, and to top it all off I am paying 30K for an adoptin and dont qualify for the adoption tax credit because I am considered rich. My husband and I are far from rich yet on paper we qualify as such (since when is 150K+ a year rich in Washington DC area???) under the democrats and I am tired of it. If I can get out there without a formal education and make money why cant everyone else?
And all I hear is:
well, people have accidents and become disabled and cant provide for their family, well thats what disability insurance is for. Go buy some, we did.
and
some people were born in to less oppotunities, well so was I. My parents were poor and my sisters paid their way through school..
it can be done without "stealing from the rich and paying the poor."

Yes I did and how is that McCain issue he isn't President yet, nor is it Obama's fault either. Do both of them work in Washington and play a part in what is happening YES. NO one in Washington is immune to what is happening they are all to blame Democrates and Republicans alike for the mess were in.
Like I stated when Obama has more experience I will consider voting for him in 4 years. Yes he has a strong choice for VP just not strong enough for me at this time.

What??????
Republicans have controlled the executive branch, the house, senate, and arguably the judicial branch for the last 6 years. This is a full scale implementation of neo-conservative ideas. McCain has swung hard right with Palin ... she's just as much an extremist as Bush, if not more.
Both Bush and McCain are just copying Reagan's little formula. He is going to give you more of the same. His approach to the economy is identical. He's also a hothead that's insinuated attacking several countries.
How bad do things have to get before people realize that this approach just doesn't work????
Did you hear Palin standing up against the Iraq war? No ... instead she said it was God's plan. Isn't that what Bush said???
As far as Obama being untested, he's been tested with about ten more years of state and national experience than Palin. Plus he has a background in law.
You listened to "her" talk and was convinced? It was a scripted speech. Every single bit of it. Maybe it proves she's got a little talent in acting, but most of her claims were distorted, or half truths. She doesn't stand up to people ... she stabbed them in the back when it was politically expedient, or takes credit were credit is not due.
What I see as the future of politics is more people like Reagan. Tapping hot talent from Hollywood .. people who are trained to say made up lines (having little factual substance) convincingly. Hell, maybe we can get Angelina Jolie to run ,,, .

DG you have been paying all of those taxes under a Republican govt and until several months ago a Republican majority in congress.

Who is going to pay for this "affordable healthcare"?
What about capital gains taxes? Obama wants to raise them.
What about Windfall TAxes? THose arent just for oil companies and their profits.
I have beena democrat all my life but this election seems critical, so I did alot, I mean alot, of reading on these two.
Im not worried about RVW being overturned. It will never happen. I'll eat my words if it does. But it wont.

With higher taxes, am I right? Doesnt France have a "wonderul healthcare system"? Isnt their tax rate something like 12%?
Will my healthcare be affordable? Right now we pay $1800.00USD a month for a couple.

DG, if the rest of the industrialized world has it then it can obviously be affordable. And yet the US doesn't have it. The citizens of the US obviously don't want it. They prefer to spend the tax money on other things. Eventually, given what they prefer, one can only hope they'll run out of the stuff and go back to frugal piety and neighbourliness instead.

Spot, I am in a 35% tax bracket. Thats almost half of my income. And I still pay the government at the end of the year anywhere between 13,000 and 20,000USD.
A large of chunk of my money goes to the government monthly and annually yet my healthcare is expensive and I dont qualify for special refunds/credits (i.e. adoption credit, stimulus, etc.)
Its just driving me mad. The more I make and try to save the more gets taken. Its driving me crazy.

And you don't even get a national health service? I wonder why you tolerate it.
The taxpayers of America prefer to fund the excessive celebrity lifestyle of their minority rich rather than adopt a more balanced way of life. It all comes down to who you want to spend the wealth, who you think owns it, your working classes or their capitalist masters.

Most countries with national healthcare do it more cheaply than what you are paying in private insurance, and provide more services. The reason is that insurance companies and and pharma has a stranglehold on the market. For example, the Bush admin passed some laws to cut out drugs from Canada because they were too cheap. The last thing they want is true competition to drive prices down, or any legislation that cuts into their profits. Seriously, these guys are not on your side. If you wonder where your money is going ... a large bulk was just spent on Iraq.
When did you do better economically? Under Bush or Clinton?

He himself has admitted he doesnt understand economics and Palin is a freshman. Theyre hiding her until she can be implanted with smart stuff.

Why isnt McCain unfolding his economic plan ?

Obama scares me with all this talk of all these creative tax plans (hikes). And then there is that whole unionizing restaraunt workers. Which could kill us. Im still trying to figure out what its called. I googled it all day yesterday. he has been explaining it to me and its baaaad. As soon as I get more info on that topic, I'll post.

You dislike a union for restaurant workers, you tip instead so their employer can get their labour for $2 an hour? You're paying one way or paying another, it seems to me, if the restaurant worker's to afford somewhere to sleep at night. The only people to benefit at the moment are the restaurant owners.

The wait staff at the restaraunt we own, easily make $1000/week. I hardly think they have a difficult time paying rent or buying a home for that matter because there is a $7500 credit at the moment if you are a first time homebuyer (or havent owned a principal residence in the last 3 years)
The problem is this, for example, Nellie's kid gets sick. Normally she would get her shift covered and stay home with her kid. Obama was quoted as saying something along the lines of Nellie needs a union because if her kid gets sick she needs to be home and not worry about her shift...
its all of the sudden the restaraunts problem that her kid is sick??
If an employee isnt performing, we cant approach the employee and rectify the situation, we have to go through a Union. What happened to being responisble for your actions? If you're lazy, you get fired. At least that is how it should be, but with a union, forget it.
So...it will affect the people we hire, which will affect your service, which will affect our profits, which will affect us raising our prices which will affect your wallet...

TheNewDG;975870 wrote: If an employee isnt performing, we cant approach the employee and rectify the situation, we have to go through a Union.Rubbish. There's no union I ever heard of that has permission in any country to operate that way. Labour relations which involve unions have ratchet steps in which the union can be kept informed by the member and provide advice and representation if a problem escalates. They have guideline procedures which, if the union's recognised, will have been agreed by the company. Overriding all of that is the country's employment law which draws the boundary on what can or can't be done by either side.
On a side note, there's a big difference between "make" and "earn". I doubt very much whether you pay them that, you rely on the customers to do it for you.
