As I was leaving the Gym this morning, I saw the same guy that was just a few treadmills down from me getting into his car. It was legally parked "right in front of the building" in a "handycapped spot". It was legal since he had a "state issued" "handycapped tag" displayed on his car's windshild.
What struck me odd was, that he just "walked 3 miles on the treadmill", only then to get into a parked car right in front of the building in a handycapped spot, instead of walking a hundred or so feet to the regular parking area. ODD!

I dont know about there, but over here you can get a disabled badge if you have a relative that is disabled and you are named as their designated driver:sneaky:

That could be the case. But I would imagine that since "the disabled party" wasn't with him, then he was using the handycapped tag illegally! The tag is removable, and has to be put in place when parking a car in a handycapped spot, with a handycapped person coming out if it!

I'd say his REHAB is working great and they need to take the "Disabled Tag" away from him.

Disabled can be in many forms,
My brother had cancer and was given a blue badge and yet looked the picture of health for a long time.

Here we don't need a designated driver named. I can take my card with me and use it no matter what vehicle I'm in or whose driving. I usually drive myself, but have a problem walking far because of my back.

That's one of the big problems. If people can't see the disability, then they assume there is nothing wrong with the person. I get dirty looks all the time. I'm just waiting for someone to say something to me...then I'll just show them all my surgery scars and make them feel like an idiot.

I can understand & sympathize with your problem, and can I assume you would not want to walk "3" miles on a treadmill like that guy did?!

I know when I go to the local Walmart, it's very difficult to find a handicapped spot, yet I see lots of teens using them as they strut into the store. They must be using their parents cards. I know my 20yr old uses her boyfriends mom's tag. It gets rediculous.

You know, almost 4 years after my husband became ill, I still do not have a handicap tag. He can slowly get there via walker, and alot of patience. I still think we are not as bad off as some who really need them, but shame on those who do not, and use them.

I know in Illinois, all you have to do is have your doctor fill out a short form and you can get a tag. Then mail it in, or take it to the DMV.

Yes, that's a big part of the problem, it seems the tags are way too easy to get! And many times, those that are severely handycapped, have trouble finding a open handycapped spot!

Yeah they are kind of easy to get, but a Dr. has to sign it and put down the diagnosis. If they are giving them out to people that don't need them, the docs can get in big trouble.

I also have a handicapped card for parking - I've never been on a treadmill, couldn't /can't.
I'm happy to be able to do what walking I do.
Shellbell - do you get strange looks/stares from people when you get out of your car parked in a handicapped spot.?
Yeh, I'd like to flash them my scars - I can so relate to that...

I really don't pay much attention to people that stare, or glare is probably a better word for it. It's usually my daughter that points it out and says "mom, you sure are getting some dirty looks". Of course she likes me having the card so we can park up close. :wah:

That is sad when someone is rude and stares, or are unkind and let's the door slam in the face of the handicapped person/and their caretaker.

Sometimes we just don't realize that there are hidden handicaps.....
One of my sil's, at one time, had tunnel vision, and my brother had problems. It was just so hard for him to walk her into the store to shop or into the gym to exercise on the treadmill because of her disability. But, no one knew that they had problems and would stare at them. They should only know how they struggled.
Thank goodness for the special parking places.....it's made their life so much easier:-4

My son is 24 6ft tall and looks the picture of health but he has fibromyalgia which means he is in almost constant pain. Sometimes he can manage the day quite well other days this grown man cries in agony at getting out of bed.
One of the treatments is to go to the gym regularly to keep the joints and muscles supple the following day he often cant tie his shoelaces because he is in so much pain.
He had hoped to get a handicapped badge but because he has good days he was denied it.

And yet there are those that really are not as bad, but still get them! Go figure! Just goes to show, things are not always fair!
