Are you locked-in?
Some people choose to live in communities, that have "security gates'' surrounding their community. Thus, seemingly segregating/alienating themselves, or removing themselves from the local community at large. Causing friends & relatives to have to negotiate numbers at a security gate, if they want to get to visit their friend/relative who lives there''. On the upside, the gate stops unwanted friends, chariities & or sales people banging on your door.
Whether you live in a house or apartment, do you have more then "one" lock on the entry doors?
If so, do you lock them all when you're home?
Or, are you one of those that rarely ever locks the doors?

Are you locked-in?
I could never stand to be "locked in". Where I live right now, I am on a wooded 13 acre lot with no neighbors any where near me. As a matter of fact when "service people" need to find my home, I have them call me when they are close to my house and then have to go outside and wait for them. The doors are never locked and if I had to be in a "lock-in"community, (IMO) I might as well live in prison. For those of you who do, I hope I haven't offended you it's just I could never live like that

I hate those kinds of communities that are gated...................you cannot do what you want on your own property.......and they are usually snobs!
I live in my own home..........and the doors are always locked.

Couldn't live like that...all gated. I do have more than one lock on each door, but don't always use them. When I have my front door open for the air to come in, I have to lock my screen door...not so someone will stay out, but to keep my dogs in! They know how to open the door. :wah::wah:

We now lock "both" locks on all entry doors when we're home, it's just become a force of habit. Over the years, 2 "different houses" we owned were broken into, luckily, when we were not home! After the first house was broken into, within a year we moved to a different house, different city. Four years later, in this new house, new city, luckily again we were not home, this house was broken into! Both houses were in affluent neighborhoods, however as fate would have it, lightning did strike twice in this instance! So we lock our doors to be cautious, but unfortunately, "they" can still always just break a window! So . . . .

I HATE gated communities. Why isolate yourself from your neighbors? I also hate HOAs (Home Owner Associations). We pronounce the letters as a name ... sounds like 'prostitute'. :wah: We have to pay the HOA every month because we're being screwed.
I wish I could afford 13 acres. I'd plop the house right in the center.
As for locks, I always forget; my beloved always remembers.

We have gateds and HOAs out here. The old people love em and so do the wannabe rich. I dont mind gateds but I draw the line at HOAs. I dont need to be told my by neighbors what I can do with my home.
I live in a rural area. Front door always locked, back door sometimes at night. No burglar with any sense is going to trespass my six dogs who are out back.

I'm too compassionate to be an utter bastard.
Too self respecting to be a caring idiot.
Too much pride to give up the self respect.
And not willing to take the rap for a lack of compassion.
Where does this leave me? Nowhere. What does this leave me? Nothing. Who does this leave me? Noone.

i have wondered about the gated communities popping up even in the south..in towns..I have friends who live in them..and when i go visit, its like visiting disney world..from the front..it all looks serene and perfect.but you dont see kids in the street..people outside..nada..no dogs..nothing..cars are parked in garages..you have to pass a guard to get in..and he takes your name and tag number to enter..after you give him the name of the people you are visiting. It doesnt look like living to me.more like hiding.

Donald Trump wants to build one here in the north east. A ghetto for the rich. We do not have such things here and don't want them. It's one of the biggest reasons for the objections which he seems incapable of understanding.
How do they get away, i the states, with banning people from parts of a city?

Gated communities all have HOAs. That's who maintains the castle walls and gates.

How do they get away, i the states, with banning people from parts of a city? It's mostly in suburbia, not the cities, and it's all private property. It's just like you building a fence and gate around your house, except the fence is around all your neighbors houses and you all share the costs. It's legal. Ugly, elitist, isolationist, paranoid, ... but legal.

it's not a part of a city it's just some estates choose to put gates at the front entrance of the housing estate. Ireland has a lot of estates now, don't know how it is in Scotland.
We call them subdivisions here. :-6

we live in the country, everyone has 1-3 acre properties, no gates unless you choose to put one on your own property, and no HOA. :-6

We only lock the doors at night, and obviously when we're not at home. The front door is always unlocked and open when we are at home.

I don't even take the keys out of my truck, drives the wife crazy. We rarely lock our doors, (we have so many friends and kids who come and go no one would get away with breaking in). I refuse to live in an area with HOA. I bought the land and the house, no one is going to tell me what kind of grass I can grow or whether I have to park my truck in the garage.
