Cheaper than a home security system!

Post by Odie »

Everyone here who owns a home should have a home security system:

When we had just moved into our first home, we couldn't afford it,

Hubby of course worked nights............me by myself....................I was so afraid!

So I had bought 3 signs and put them in the living room window, portch window and side window and they read, 'Beware of Dog!'

I had a city worker up one day, when I answered the door, he stepped way back........I said, what's wrong............he said, where is the dog?

Others who came up, and didn't know us, also reacted the same!

do you have a home security system and do you need one where you live?

funny you mentioned this:

years ago when guns were legal here, I went into the police station and asked for a firearms application..........the cop was a big son of a ----- and said, now why do you need one?

I told him, hubby works nights and if ever someone broke it............

he abruptly and rudely said to me, lady you have to practically dead before you shoot someone or you will be charged!

Needless to say he and I go on to the quite the topic in how criminals can have them, but as a woman, alone at home, I am not aloud to defend myself?

From a cops standpoint I can see why they dont want more guns on the street. but......average response time for a police call in Minneapolis is 8 1/2 minutes. A whole lot can happen in that amount of time.

Average time here..........not sure on times, all depends on how busy they are at that time? So one never knows!

= We had called the police last summer on someone breaking in to our neighbours home.............she kept us on the line until the came.........but 1/2 through the conversation, she asked me, where is your street located?:-5:-5:-5...............it was well over 10 minutes!

I suggested they take a course in their neighbourhood on where streets were!

What worked really well for me was going down to the local shooting

range and putting 16 out of 17 shots in one of those human shaped

targets and then taping it up in the window. That'll stop 'em, alright.

ALOHA!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

I live in an area with quite low crime rate most is shoplifting and bike theft.

We never had any problem because we had Max and no-one wants to mess with a 60 kilo cross Bouvier St Bernard.

But one night after Max died I was woken up by the sound of someone opening cupboards downstairs. Luckily OH was home and he jumped out of bed and headed downstairs the person/persons fled via the back door.

We went to the local rescue center the very next day and adopted a beautiful but much mistreated Border Collie.

I had thought I would never be able to love another dog after Max went but thanks to these would be thieves I found a wonderful faithful loving friend in the shape of Oscar.

Ooh, that is a great idea with the signs. Yes, we do have one. Just for that security reason.

we don't have one, we live in the country. But we are also surrounded by neighbors with doggies and they bark whenever they aren't familiar with a car or person. :-6

Just a note! Loads of people who do have dogs quite calmly announce to every tom dick and harry 'dont worry he wont bite' STUPID or what?

I tell people if my dog feels that he or I am under threat he will bite.

Also if I call 'bite him' my dogs all jump up and run to find the person, its a sign theres someone at the door nothing more but callers don't know that!:wah:

Me too Hope. I've had at least one dog, usually more, since the day I was born. I can't imaging life without them. :-4

These to me would work better than any security systems out there............I have found security take way to long in responding, this barking is done automatically at 20 feet.

I really am thinking of buying one, I have just emailed them all of my concerns............as I want to be able to shut if completely at times....or this may freak out my 4 cats!

20 feet would be at the end of my driveway, mailman, newspaper man, I don't want the darn thing barking all day!

Another reader who lives in an apartment buillding who is not aloud dogs............the superintendant came up to hear that it wasn't a real dog barking, he also thought it was a great secuity system.................no one goes near a home when a german sheppard is barking.

regular security alarms takes way to long in responding.
