this money melt down ... why were there not more laws to stop greedy people and stupid people from building this pack of cards

are there enough laws or too many laws and if there were no laws would it just be chaos :-3:-3

We wll always need rules and laws otherwise human nature would mean that people are running around doing what they want with no consideration to others.

If you take a 2 children 1 that has been brought up with rules and boundarys and the other allowed to do whatever I know what one I would lay money on to conform to social standards which should be expected in a modern society.

Talking of rules Jim

1) Take your shoes off before going in the house

2) Do not leave a soaking wet towel on the bed

3) Put rubbish in the bin

I think the law about not having your bin lid totally closed is good, i mean where would we be without it ,, people making sure all their rubbish is in the bin even if it means the bin lid is 5 inches open!!!!!!!it would be utter chaos:rolleyes:its just one step away from not putting all your recyclables(most of your rubbish) in the tiny black box!:p

are there enough laws or too many laws and if there were no laws would it just be chaos :-3:-3I don't like laws designed to protect me from myself. Seatbelts & helmets - wearing them is a good idea, mandating their wear is not. Why not mandate eating a good healthy breakfast while you're at it?

This money meltdown would not have happened had the gov't not interfered in the first place. The banks made bad loans to high-risk customers because of gov't guarantees. People overextended themselves because it looked like their chance had come sooner than expected and ignored the warnings - in writing! - that the payments would double in a few years. I heard it over and over again: take this mortgage now, then refinance in a few years to avoid the balloon payment.

The people who bought houses using the traditional 30-year fixed-rate mortgage with payments they could afford are doing fine.

Laws designed to keep honest people honest are fine and necessary.

Laws designed to manipulate markets are never good because of the unintended consequences they bring with them.

There is no personal freedom without collective organization

No collective organization without commonly agreed rules

No commonly agreed rules without a means of enforcement

This has held true in democratic society since the times of ancient Greece. The trick is what system of law do you develop that provides a stable society with the mimimum amount of rules necessary to ensure individual freedom in tandem with collective security. We do not live as individuals, but as individuals within a collective society. The law and the state need to reflect both of these realities for a free society to be healthy.

Agreed. The problems start when those designated (elected) to write that minimum amount of rules runs out of rules to write. They feel the natural human need to be useful or justify their jobs, so they start being creative.

To put it in very basic terms. The money meltdown is obvious there aren't more laws to stop greedy and stupid people from building with cards because the government is run by greedy people that think they're smart and they think they may be able to control some of the flow of that greed into their own pockets.

And the driving thing. There are other hazards besides other road users ie. animals, weather I guess this is why they invented the hazard perception test

Laws are intended for people who don't have common sense, have short-term memories, or are just mean-natured. These laws are there to protect the rest of us.

:D
:D I almost missed the smilie.

Here's the end of this list of stupid laws:

86)

North Carolina has a law to ban people from swearing in front of cadavers. The law also sets out guidelines transporting the recently deceased after one funeral firm was caught piling stiffs onto the back of a pick-up truck. It outlaws 'profanity, indecent or obscene language in the presence of a dead human body' making it technically illegal to say the 'f' word in front of a hearse!

87)

In Minnesota, USA, it is still against the law to hang male and female underwear together on the same washing line.

88)

In Indiana, USA, in the 1950's anything to do with Robin Hood was banned on the grounds that robbing from from the rich to give to the poor was a communist act!

89)

In olden times witches who were tried by the Bible were often declared innocent.

The accused witch and the Bible were weighed and if the witch weighed more than the Bible then she was released.

Not a good time to be suffering from anorexia we think!

90)

In England, in 1837, a law was passed that entitled a woman to bite off a man's nose if he kissed her against her will!

91)

The Egyptian government banned male belly-dancing in 1837 because of the enthusiastic riots that it caused.

92)

In Arizona, USA, it is illegal to hunt camels.

93)

In California, USA, in 1986, Judge Samuel King became so annoyed that jurors were absent from his court because of heavy rain that he issued a decree which stated "I hereby order that it cease raining by Tuesday."

Amazingly it stopped raining on Tuesday and California suffered a 5 year drought.

In 1991 the judge then decreed "Rain shall fall in California beginning February 27th."

Later that day California had the heaviest rainfall in ten years.

94)

In Alexandria, Minneapolis, USA, it is against the law for a man to make love to a woman with the smell of sardines on his breath.

I despise have to wear seatbelts, for me, they are extremely uncomfortable and I am forever adjusting them...........but you must remember, doctors and nurses have to save your life.............why make it more difficult for them?

I think they go through to much bullshit in saving people, especially drunks, drug addicts, bums, murderers, rapists etc..............scums is more like it!

Good thing I am not a doctor or nurse!
Life is just to short for drama.

If it were, we'd have curfews for everyone. Police would have master keys to get into everyone's house to check & make sure we weren't doing anything stupid, and cars would have speed governor's on them so we wouldn't drive at unsafe speeds.
