How To Dance In The Rain
Friend e-mailed me this the other day ...
It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.
I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry.
The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health.
He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.
As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late.
He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'
He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

How To Dance In The Rain
OHHHHHH
made me tear up...
My MIL is showing signs of Alzheimer's, she's very much on the go, loves to shop.
She's very forgetful
I told her yesterday, I'm going to put a leash on you.!!:wah:
She laughed..
Example - my B-Day was 9-16. She bought me a card, forgot where she put it.
So, she went out and bought me a card, forgot where she put it.
So, she went and bought a card & gift.
She's on her 3 card and she told me my B-Day was the 24th
and would I like to go to Dinner..?
She bought me a beautiful new purse - guess what ???
all 3 cards were in my purse...
how sweet is that..?

How To Dance In The Rain
I have to say this made me cry and I will now explain the reason why. My husband who was very close to his Mother had to place her in a nursing home. She also suffered from Alzheimers and could no longer remember his name. He would go every day without fail to eat lunch with her. I would ask him if she called him by name that day and he would always tear up and say no but I know she's my Mother and would continue to go.
One night we got a call from the nursing home that his Mother had somehow managed to get out. It was the worst weather possible. Thunder and lightning and heavy rain. My husband and I went to help search for her. My husband found her in the woods singing and dancing and calling out his name.
She died a week later but she danced that night and sang and called out his name :-1
BTW, this is a true story and to this day when it thunder and lightnings and we get heavy rain, my husband tells me if you listen closely it's just his Mother calling out his name.......
