September Storm at the beach

Post by Kathy Ellen »

A Noreastern is closing in on us at the beach tonight. There's supposed to be 8 ft. and higher waves and lots of coastal flooding. Wish us luck with the flooding. My boiler and hot water heater are in the crawl space. Hope my sump pumps will work correctly tonight. Storm is supposed to get worse after 10 tonight.

I just got home from work and took some pics. It was so windy that I could hardly open my car door:thinking:

No, it gets extremely windy, but my house is secure. I did batten down the hatches outside though.

I'm worried about flooding. When I first moved here, my crawl space flooded and I lost my boiler and hot water heater....cost almost 7,000, but thank goodness my flood insurance covered it.

Stay cozy and safe inside the homestead, Kathy. I'll be thinking of you.

We have windy cloudy weather down here in Georgia with an occasional sprinkle of rain. It's kind a cool too.

Those "nor'easterns" can be mean.

Kathy, keep safe and warm, and don't go outside while the storm is on. So what if the flamin rubbish bin gets blown down the road ! You'll be fine I'm sure, you seem to have done all that is necessary. Just think of those poor cops and people who have to work outside in the storm. Rather them than us :( Good luck to you Kathy, and my thoughts are with you tonight :-4

I feel safe, but I'm just worried that my sump pumps won't work or the electric will go out.

I wouldn't dare go out now. When I was at the beach it was so windy that I was almost blown off the beach.

Ahhhhhh, thanks my friend:-4. I'll be ok unless my power goes off. Then I'd worry about my sump pumps....

I worry because I live between the bay and ocean. When the tide is high, they both move water into the water table. I'm only about 9 ft from the table so I could flood. Thank goodness I have 2 sump pumps and they've been working well.

Yes, I can feel all of your wishes:wah::p Thank you my friend;)

Ahhhhhh Ducky....you're always such a good and kind friend:-4 That's so sweet of you to say that to Quin. I heard that you're in for flooding and high winds also. Good luck tonight.

I had forgotten to put aways my brand, new trash cans and umbrella. SOOOOOOOO, before I heard my trash cans rattling around I decided to take a shower, wash hair and iron clothes for work tomorrow just incase I had no electricity.

Since my hair was wet already I thought what the heck....ran half way up the block to retrive my cans and took down the brolly before it became a torpedo.....

Winds are whipping around and my windows are rattling a bit. Should be at its worse after 10......

Good luck:-6

Com'on you know those storms in NJ are more fancy than fact, unless perhaps you are on LBI and someday that will be washed away. The last real storm we had at the Jersey shore was in 1939.

Too bad your house isn't on those cliffs in Ireland. :-6

I hope we don't loose it as well. If we lost electric for any more then several hours qsd, you have no idea just how very bad it would be for us! Not just no putter or TV. We get our house water via an "electric" pump from a 340 foot deep "well". It's icey cold, crystal clear, & tastes delicious! However, no electric, no pump, no water coming in!!! So here's the really bad part. Then we can only "flush" each of the "bowls twice, with the existing water in the holding tank. Then can't flush anymore till electric comes back on to operate the pump again!!! So . . . .

Ohhhhhhhh, I don't think soooooooo Quinn..... I've been coming to the Jersey Shore all of my life but have only lived here full time for 20 years. We've had some doozys during the last 20 years....3 ft. of water in my crawl space, windows smashed in, part of my roof torn off with the wind, tons of ice storms that froze the roads so they were undrivable, a few snowstorm drifts that were 7 feet high surrounding my home. To me, that's serious.

That's the kind of storms we have here....I'm not talking about my house floating out to sea. We have extremely high winds and ice storms now.

Hi KE, glad things are going good for you so far, hope it stays that way! Yes we used to dread "winter" also!!! That's why come December 3rd, we'll be traveling to our Southern villa, so as to be in the Sunshine state till mid May! Mid May through November it's way too hot/humid there so we come back to our Northern villa! It's almost like year round summer! :) (Not to mention hurricane season is over)

Ain't life grand! ;)

Man oh man...you and the mrs. are lucky and deserve only the best.....one day for me...one day....maybe 5 more years if I'm lucky. I might move to Siesta Key if I can afford it....who knows:-6

I'm going to Tampa for a wedding in February, and I'll get some sun then. I was going to go to Europe this summer, but due to circumstances, I might take the auto train down to Siesta and drive home visiting some FG'ers along the way home...how cool is that?
