Any summation of Barack Obama's impact on domestic policy and politics should begin with this: In 2008, he assured supporters, "We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." Soon he will be replaced by someone who says, "I alone can fix it." So, Americans have paid Obama the compliment of choosing continuity, if only in presidential narcissism.

Will makes the mistake of reading Obama's comment as a first person singular, comment, rather than a first person plural. Meaning Obama was speaking to, and about, the people who selected the Democratic promise of changing the course we were on at the time, which was not really an option.
IMHO, Mr Will has long since passed the point of relevance in the American political scene. It's a shame, too. I used to like reading his work.

Will should stick to baseball at this point of his life. Though i wouldn't sit with him at a game.

I don't read George Will because he has any relevance to the masses. I read him because of his intelligent insight.

I listened to his news conference today and I liked what I heard.
Really loved the hoo-ha over his comments about BuzzFeed and CNN. Very entertaining indeed.
Another thing I liked he answered questions and didn't filibuster the whole event as Obama was wont to do.

I just love the last line.
Now, nine days before his presidential inauguration, the Trump press conference is back - and it turns out he hasn't lost a controversial step. Before getting into the give-and-take with reporters, however, Mr Trump explained why it had been so long.
"We stopped having them because we were getting a lot inaccurate news," he said.
In other words, he was punishing the press for what he saw as unfair treatment. On Wednesday, instead of punishing the press with his absence, he would punish them with his presence.

That was a mean thing to say.
I offer an observation of a single news conference and you take it as some kind of messiah worship.

I mean really?
He answered questions, answered them in plain English without laboring the point. He had someone address the possible conflict of interest concerns and I was impressed by what seemed to be a complete examination.
I still want to see his tax returns.

Don't hold your breath. A conservative, very conservative, media outlet, Glenn Beck's thing, I believe:
"NEW YORK — President-elect Donald Trump once again dodged questions regarding his tax returns Wednesday and implied that since he won the election, they might never become public...................................When asked if he believed Americans want to see the returns, Trump had a simple answer: “I won. I became president. I mean, I don’t think they care at all. "
