It was a great start, Spot. The prosecutor has only about 5 more witnesses to call tomorrow, (Wednesday), and then we get to start calling our witnesses, about 4 or 5, including Bullet. It should be handed over for the jury to deliberate by Thursday at the latest. I seriously doubt they will deliberate very long. Week's end, it should all be over. If tomorrow goes anything like today did, I will be on cloud nine. I expect it will go even better when we get OUR witnesses up there.
I wish I could adequately describe how slick our lawyer is. He comes off as this sort of quiet, somewhat meek oddball, but Geeeezus, you get him in a cross-examination, and he's totally brilliant. He came up with ways to shoot down prosecution testimony that I never even thought of, and I've been thinking about nothing else for going on 11 months. He is worth every penny we had to spend on him.
We are being very proactive in the case, obviously, and with three good brains on this, we've got a supurb chance at walking away from this. I'm so pumped full of adrenaline right now that I will probably end up pulling an all-nighter here. I have to be up in 4 hours anyway.
I give a lot of the credit to all of you here who have been so concerned and sending positive vibes, good thoughts and prayers our way.
Y'all are a super bunch. :-4 :-4

No, Butter. Actually Bullet and I eloped on December 1st, 2005. We just wanted the reception in the summer, and that was last weekend.

That's great news about the trial BR, I'm so glad to hear that it went so well for you on Monday. I'm sure that it will be over in no time soon, but here's sending you some more good luck, feel free to do with it whatever you wish!! :p

And, yes....ANOTHER great day at the court house!!
Defense rested today after calling in various ballistics and forensic experts, all of whom had absolutely nothing to add to the case, simply because Bullet is not trying to say he didn't shoot the man. Frankly, I think the prosecutor wasted a WHOLE lot of time on these types of witnesses.
Finally, we got to call our witnesses, which turned out to be only Ox and Bullet. Ox was shakey, he was scared and isn't really all that bright, but he stuck to the truth, even if he did stumble a bit on some facts. Then, Bullet took the stand. He was absolutely brilliant. The prosecutor actually turned the jury against him while cross-examining Bullet because he was so confrontational. You could see it on their faces that they were aggravated with the way he was so harsh with Bullet. The man is desperately grasping at straws now, and losing ground quickly. When Bullet was being questioned about the shots fired at him the prosecutor was trying to discredit him by asking things like "Did you feel or hear a bullet go past you...." and asking the same thing over and over in different ways. Finally Bullet said, "Look, just because the guy is a lousy shot, doesn't mean he wasn't shooting at me!!"
That brought a chuckle from the jury and a total hissy fit from the prosecutor. It was extremely funny.
Also, at the very end, after the jury was dismissed, the prosecutor asked if he might put in a motion to lower the charge to involuntary manslaughter. This means that he does not believe he can win with the charge of murder 2. The judge denied that motion.
So, tomorrow we go hear closing arguments, each lawyer getting 20 minutes to make their closings, then 5 minutes each for rebuttal, then the judge will give his instructions to the jury which will take about 20 minutes. Then they go to deliberate. So, at about 11:00 am my time, the whole thing will be in the hands of the jury. Once again....keep your fingers crossed and your prayers and vibes coming, PLEASE!!
Thanks for being here through this, all of you.

Well, to drag the thread back onto topic...
Hearing a bullet go by is marginally feasible...you don't hear it unless it's really close. But I can't imagine actually seeing a bullet go by. They're just too fast. I think the prosecutor shot himself in the foot (ha) with those questions.
Got the fingers crossed here.

SON OF A BITCH!!!!
The freakin' jury got the case at 11 this morning and are STILL deliberating. They recessed till tomorrow, so we have to go BACK again. Bullet and I are both cracked, we were so sure it was cut-and-dried, and the jury would see that and come back quickly. Our lawyer says the length of time they are taking is a good thing, but that does NOTHING to make Bullet and I feel better.
He's a mess. He's not taking calls and he just wants to be left alone, which of course I will do for him. Me, I'm popping xanax like a fiend and I still can't relax. I feel like the doper I used to be. This is pure, unadulterated torture, this waiting.

There's no reason why they shouldn't want to go over everything they've heard, tick off points on their notebooks, make sure they all know everything each of them's picked up. It's a big thing for them too, BR - very few people get called on to make a decision of this importance.
The two of you have absolutely nothing left that you can do to influence matters, all you can manage is to try to sleep at least a couple of hours and avoid going white-haired under the strain. Tomorrow is no different to today. You go in, the jury carry on, they're no more or less likely to go either way now than they were to start with. You saw the case, you know what was said, you have to wait it out.
I can imagine a jury saying guilty as hell inside minutes of retiring, but other than that talking it all out makes more sense than rushing. Your lawyer says the length of time they are taking is a good thing? He's seen a lot more trials than you have between you. Take him at his word.

I know....isn't she great? You all are great. I was just telling another member in PM; all this unconditional support and love and concern and words of encouragement mean more to me than I can adequately express. I'd like to borrow anastrophe's vocabulary to give it a whirl, though!
I totally believe in the power of people focusing their thoughts and energy on something like this, so I hope a whole lot of you join her in this effort. :-4 :-4

Mom, with what you have on your own plate...to be concerned with us...I just can't say what it means to me. You're one of the strongest, most selfless people I know. Love ya, sweets. :-4
