This was in reaction to the amount of whining going on about the good old days. Apart from a change in regular posters, I can't see that it's changed that much, there are fun times, slow times, there will always be someone you don't like much and people you get on with like a house on fire.
It's human nature for people to get fed up about this or that, but at the end of the day no-one is forcing anyone to read things that annoy them, or even stick around. I always think it's sad when someone decides to delete their account because even though that person might be missed, everything else carries on regardless anyway. So, if you want to see change, why not be a part of it and make it happen? You can't do that once you've left.
Very very true. Seems a lot of people start threads here but there are other forums where members complain that threads are boring yet never start any themselves. At least things are kept moving here.
another observation is when someone leaves due to another person bothering them, that person leaves as well...as said MANY times before...life continues on..

There is nothing we can individually do to change a board to make it more likable for anyone. All that is accomplished by saying they don't like FG anymore is to make people upset. Nobody can fix it. We can't even rally everyone to fix it. So the point is moot.
Anyone wanting to say "thanks for the good times" can say it in a pleasant way.

Usually PMs are the best way to avoid conflict.
you are totally right koan but whats your point your holding up a good thread here with your constant interuptions:D
koan;568758 wrote: It's about wanting to say "Thanks for the insult" every time someone says all the "good" people have left FG.
there are some very good people that are here koan,i miss hammy but i hope she will come back , i have had a look round there is no place like f g ,believe me :-6
And I didn't read your OP as anything other then a request for my views on the topic. So, how admins across the universe view goodbye threads is not really germane here.
Funny, because your first post here implied you read a lot more into the OP, including that I don't give a "rat's ass" about people.

I have no opinion on the goodbye threads. What I have not liked are the threads from older members whining about how all the older members are leaving to be replaced by the newer members as that seems a slap in the face to the newer ones.
Having said that I don't appreciate new people coming here and acting like jackasses in what is still essentially to them, "our" home. Sorry you don't make the rules. But you do have to follow them. We donot need to put up with immature insults from people we didn't invite here.

DesignerGal;569867 wrote: But you (or older members) dont either.
but tradition and usage do - in any society.
In Rant and Rave it is normal and accepted to flame people.
In MJNO (apparently) heavy moderation is normal and accepted
Neither of these are normal or accepted in the society of FG. As with any society, this might well change over time but for anyone to come in and expect to change the prevailing mores would be rudeness.
No one person or group of people make the rules of a society (subject to the edicts of King Tombstone), the society evolves as the sum of its members, environment and history.
So "Having said that I don't appreciate new people coming here and acting like jackasses in what is still essentially to them, "our" home. Sorry you don't make the rules. But you do have to follow them." is a fairly good (if blunt) summation of the situation.

You can find that 'general consensus view' toward exit threads and other topics on other, less successful forums. Then perhaps we could bring together the various ideas this thread's brought out so far and link them somehow to a self-delete option which isn't enabled at the moment but which might reduce the prolonged departure threads we've seen in the past. People want to be able to leave at will, people want to leave an indelible note of their attitude as they go, people don't want to read rancorous discussions about proposed imminent departures. I suggest a sticky non-closing poll which permanently displays all users who vote, and what choice they vote for, titled "vote here and leave" in which casting a vote triggers an instant automated account deletion as the only self-deletion mechanism on the site. Here's a possible set of poll options:
I'm no longer what I was and leaving will improve your livesYou're no longer what you were and leaving will improve my lifeMy friend left and I'm so annoyed that I'm leaving in protest

This is a public forum, where people are free to rave on a bit. T his thread already contains a number of different views, all expressed within Tombstone's terms of what is allowable. All good. I'd hate to have anyone feel they are unable to say what they think, even if what they want to present is a soap opera type goodbye, complete with doorslam.. ( or a soap opera hello or ongoing chatter complete with pop music or hyperactive homers). Tastes differ. I'm against censorship.
