The Christmas Letter

Post by SOJOURNER »

It arrived today. The first one of several that will be arriving over the next two weeks. That dreaded, boring, bragging, insipit piece of trivia that flows from the pens of family and friends at Christmas time.

If anything pi$$e$ me off, it is finding someone's journal of the past year stuck in with the warm and loving wishes of the Season.

One of two things happen:

1) You read the letter and realize what a sorry life you lead.

2) You read the letter and realize they are just as boring as you are.

Am I alone in my feelings of distain for this writing ritual?

Tell us your feelings of joy or annoyance when pushy friends and family force you to take a close look at their lives through the biased ramblings.

I, for one, do not want no stinking Christmas Newsletter!

Horray for you SOJO I totally agree with ya.... in poor taste me thinks if one has to send out a hundred generic christmas letters to ones friends, family and acquaintences (I can't spell)

it has been a delightful year, bonser has finally taken the eight wrecks out of the front yard, and in 35 years the oil will no longer be toxic, we're so proud of him! Bonser Jr. finally passed the 8th grade, but the state wont let him go to highschool at 21 so we enrolled him in day care!... Sallyjo's pregnant again, this time we're sure its not because of one of the cousins!....

you mean ones like that? ahahahaah

I'm getting to know you, Grinch. I just knew you'd post a letter.

oh don't you hate when they have to mention things like aunti etta got new dentures after loosing the first set in the toilet, or uncle irving blew a hip while playing twister with the Young 'uns and is intensive care and all are welcome to visit the cranky old fart anytime?

Yeah they are a joy those letters.

Now, guys, I have to say, I get at least one of those that I truly enjoy.

It is from a girl (woman now, of course!) that I went to school with,

see her every once in a while at a reunion but love to get her news

in the yearly letter!! Call me crazy (Val, you're crazy!) but maybe hers

just aren't as bad or something, I dunno.

I would be dissapointed if I didn't get one from her!!

We only recieve one of those letters from friend's that are snowbirds to Florida. The same letter is sent to everybody up north filled with how many doctor's they go see for evey little ache and pain and complain about the weather, bugs, spiders, birds, fire ants and the neighbors dog's pooing in their yard. Makes me happy to be living where I do and contending with the winter snow. I look at letters like these as cheap entertainment.

Christmas letters are received from the people I hear from once a year. Like, trying to find out if I'm still alive and what I've been up to.

I don't bother acknowledging them. Don't hear from those folks all year long, why bother at the Holiday. I do send them a Christmas card back though, signing it with my name, Jeb (my dog) and Stinker (my skunk). Hehehehe...they see Jeb and wonder if I have a new man in my life! Let them wonder!

Sojo...I'm sorry but I found that so funny....every couple of months I e-mail my brother, sister and nephews and nieces an up date of what been happening with my family...sometimes with photos... bear in mind there is a 50/50 split with family in the UK and the US. Usually something is a catalyst...new grandchild born etc. I can just imagine them opening the e-mail and thinking "gorr blimey...is it that time again" ???? :D

It starts with January and tell about all the screwed up things that has happened..One year her son ran across the football field naked at Homecoming and to hear her explain it I about died....EX: --I looked up and there he was - that naked butt swerving in and out of the cops and I sat there thinking--well I brought that naked ass into this world..when I get home- I am gonna take him out...LOL or "we got a dog in October..Lil **** wouldn't potty train....Blah blah then it goes to Dec and she says...took the dog out to pee....lost him in the 2 ft of snow we got...goes to April and she says - found that dog finally when the snow melted.....It is just one huge funny story and having a son like her makes it well worth the read!!!!!!!
