I don't mean to offend anyone by posting this. It is a strong topic on another forum. I apologize now for any problems. It really screwed me up when I saw it but wanted to share it anyway.

That's sick-what's so funny about mixing Halloween antics with Santa!
This scares me
"Joel Krupnik and Mildred Castellanos decked the front of their Manhattan mansion this year with a scene that includes a knife-wielding 5-foot-tall St. Nick and a tree full of decapitated Barbie dolls. Hidden partly behind a tree, the merry old elf grasps a disembodied doll's head with fake blood streaming from its eye sockets...
... In a telephone interview Wednesday, Krupnik explained that his family thought it would be a fun way to make a comment about the commercialization and secularization of Christmas."
The over commercialisation of Christmas is a recurrant theme this time of year.
Christians don't like it, because they want to believe Christmas is all about the birth of Christ, and if their name is used for this festival they may have a point.
However, end of year celebrations long preceeded Christmas and the birth of Christ. The Christians accepted it was an important event, but wanted THEIR festival to be what people celebrated, so they stole it. I believe Christ was actually born in February.
Now we're living in a mainly secular society people are going back more & more to the old end of year celebrations, albeit fueled by the rampant commercialism which is a feature of the modern times we live in.
I think the person in that article had the wrong idea, because it they wanted to shock, more than to make a point. Yes, people are celebrating commercialism, but they're not doing so by destroying dolls. A better way to make their point may have been to have a crib, with a baby Jesus, & the stable full of expensive presents, only with everyone's attention on the presents, while baby Jesus was pushed into a corner & ignored.

So Jesus wasn't a Capricorn? That's rather disappointing, now I only have Elvis as a Capricorn role model.
And me..and Wolverine...:wah:

Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answers...Rainer Maria Rilke

I've just been doing a Google search for a date of Christ's birth. February isn't mentioned, so it seems I got that wrong. But the likelihood that he was born any time between September & May is mentioned in a couple of sites, with a lot of evidence to support the theories. No one really knows, because the practice of celebrating a birth didn't begin until 300 years later. It was the death of famous people that was celebrated instead.
Getting back on the topic of this thread, one saying comes to mind. "The Devil can quote scripture for his own purposes". It seems those people in that report wanted a time & an excuse to shock people, & chose an idea so far removed from what's normal at this time of year to give it maximum attention & effect.

The person who did that is a sociopath. It's scary and horrible to see, but believe it or not, sociopaths aren't that uncommon.
I can't imagine hating Christmas like that, though -- horrible!
