Tips for holidaying in Florence

I'm planning a trip to Florence this year - we are looking to stay in a comfy, decent hotel (4 star or above) somewhere convenient for getting into the city.

Does anyone have any tips ? I've never been to Florence before and don't want to end up in a flea-infested dive 15 miles away!
