Anyone got holding a torch, that could shed some light?

Post by Serenity »

Hi.

This is probably goin to sound like a "boo hoo "sob story, but i'm just hoping to figure out what's going on in these days.

I'm 22 right now. Currently , i'm employed at a mill that produces plywood, here in BC , canada.

My dilemma is this : I wake up each day with both a feeling of frustration and confusion. I'm frustrated because i know each day of my life, is just being wasted in the "rat race", but i'm confused because i don't know where to take myself. :-5

I know so many people my age that i went to school with, that have gone to college for this degree of that "whatever of the arts", and i haven't spoke to a single one of them that's received pay for their efforts. It's the same story each time : "there doesn't seem to be any jobs available" and the like.

I hear all the time about this "electronic revolution and the global village". "life being made easier" doesn't seem to have made things a damned bit more simple in my eyes.

Personally, i think it'd really help me if i knew what the "big picture" in the world today is. where are we heading? what's the goal? isn't that where the demand that drives the economy lies at?

The closest thing i've seen that has given me an idea, was a recent airing about "space exploration" and "electronic soldiers" that was on A&E. Thing is, even if this is "where it's at", your average joe has a tough time getting through the doors of the elite to get into these programs.

I'm more then likely waaayyy off center here, but as i said....it's the closest i've been able to come.

Now, the other measure that weighs in my mind right now, is the war with Iraq and the european union and a one world govt. I know a lot of it can be passed off as conspiracy, but there's a lot of cred around these days that's starting to really back it up.....and after seeing that thing on A&E about the robot soldiers...well, with a little reading between the lines it was much like watching Terminator , but with a purpose. fuggin scary to say the least.

I could go on forever here, but i'm hoping to get a clear concise answer, so i suppose it's only fair to leave a query to equal degree.

For those of you who've been around the block....or just plain know what the score is, please help me out.

Looking for direction

When I was 22, many moons ago now. I was travelling Europe and even went over to Israel. You are only young once, we were told. Travel the world. Unfortunately, we, my two buddies and I never got to see the Big Country, US of A. If I were you, I'd take off.

Hi Serenity. So you're looking for your passion. Cool for you! :) Since it's so individual, no one can really give you solid directions. We can only supply mystical-type directions such as "find the rainbow over the mirrored lake" and stuff like that. Not very helpful or concise, I'm afraid.

Fact is, it's your journey. Searching is half the fun.

However, there are practical suggestions to help you find your rainbow. Travel was already mentioned, and that's a great idea.

You can also try new hobbies, get involved in your community, and scan media articles to see what sparks your interest.

Is it people? Is it law? Art? Music? Food? Order? Creativity? A combination of things? Do you love to write, talk, or contemplate?

What is most important to you? Excitement, money, security?

Check this out as well. It's in-your-face selling, but the book Do What You Are is very helpful.

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy yourself. You've no idea how interesting you really are until you decide to find out. That's pretty exciting!
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

Leave it to the women to give you community jobs. I also was involved in working in Communities for the poorer folk about. I learned alot there too. And Yes, music, why not start a rock band. Lots of dosh in that & women by the bus loads.

Oh I wish that I was twenty again, even for a day. :guitarist
