Superbowl

Now being a Brit I really don't know virtually anything about this, but I notice that it's being shown live on our tv for 5 HOURS!! Now for any followers of the sport, or anyone else, would u recommend me watching any of it or not??

It should be a very good game Chris. Being the Superbowl, I wouldn't miss it!

Thanks for that Lil. How long will the game actually go on for. I know that the coverage lasts 5 hours, so I'm guessing 2 1/2 hours, something like that. Seeing as how it's being shown pretty late, I will probably tape it and then fast forward through any uneventual bits.

The highlight for me has always been the adverts. The sponsors pull all the stops since it's the biggest event of the year here. I don't know if you would get them there, but the halftime entertainment is usually good even if you're clueless about real football. :p

Chris, if you like sports, watch it.

If you don't, you can be like me-go to the mall. It is deserted, I can see any movie I want, eat all the food you want and no one sees you-ha, ha! Go to sleep early and enjoy the extra rest..................sound good yet, Chris?:)

Ah in that case I may have a listen at halftime. At least they have a musical act worth listening to rather than a lot of other rubbish that I could think of!

Well the Superbowl gets virtually no publicity over here anyway, so being a Sunday turning into Monday, I can see all the shopping centres being full of people still, so no deserted movie cinemas over here sadly. But I will tape it, and have a nose through it to see what the big fuss is about over there! :p

Well the biggest British football event we have is usually the FA cup I guess, which does attract a huge viewing audience both in the ground and on tv. But we are currently having a huge debate as to where the final of the FA cup will be played, but I won't bore u all with details!!

But that's it really, and I doubt it gets much if any reference to u all outside the UK.

The FAcup, eh? The biggest sport and all you have to look forward to is another Facup. You guys can't do anything right can ya? :yh_bigsmi

Hahaha well actually I really don't look forward to the FA cup much anyway because my team usually does pants, and gets knocked out early on. But apart from the rise in Cricket and the continual following of Rugby, they are the only sports that get any true following over here, though I stand to be corrected. Oh and Darts doesn't count, or so my dad says anyway!!

Americans are the modern masters of the media 'spectacle", Chris. Rome had it's Arena, so does America. Believe me, you won't be disappointed. Even if you are not into the game, the commericials for the Superbowl this year cost 250,000,000 dollars for 30 seconds. The most creative and imaginative minds in the world will be working on them. And the halftime show is sure to be...well...spectacular!

Over here, it's almost a national holiday.

Ok well despite being ill, I've managed to nose through the Superbowl, and have to say that it was not too bad. There were some pretty exciting moments, shuddering tackles, cheerleaders and the musical performances were really good.

Downsides were that there were far to many stops for my liking, start, stop, start, stop etc. And there was somewhat to many, get ball to throwing man, who plays long throw to someone, who either missed it or collected it, then repeat. Did feel a little repetitive at times, but still it was good fun, even though I had no idea at times what the hell was going on. I mean I don't really even know the rules other than that a TOUCHDOWN is good!! :wah:

Next time Superbowl is on, you go to the movie, the malls-anywhere else, and no one is there! My son went laser tagging, just him and his friends-whole place to themselves.

Sadly that's not true over here Chonsi. Remember that not only does the Superbowl start at 11pm our time, but that no-one is really interested in the sport over here, so the shops and cinemas will still be packed on the day, and the day after.

Hahaha well as much as I love to go shopping when it's quiet I don't think encorporating a holiday to the States around the time is worth it. Though it would be nice to go back to LA when it is not as warm as it is in the summer. But we are hopefully going to New York this summer, anyone living near there, feel free to come say hello!!

Well I'd love to meet up with as many people from the US as possible when I come to visit in the Summer. It will be the reverse of Minks coming to England, and instead be Chris going to the states!
