The tower sundial

Post by Raven »

Here is the place I was referring to. It's right outside the Tower Hill tube station. It's HUGE! You really cant miss it!

It has an interesting time line all along the outside of it. It gives info on the city from roman times to present.

The next sundial is outside Tower Hill tube station, and you can get there by tube from Blackfriars. If it is a fine day, (and after it is re-opened sometime in 2002) you could walk over the Millennium footbridge, past the new Tate Modern art gallery, and continue along the south bank riverside walk, making diversions if you like to see the Globe Theatre or Southwark Cathedral.. Ignore Southwark and London Bridges, and cross back to the north bank at Tower Bridge. As you cross the river, the Tower of London will be on your left, and behind it, further away from the river, is Tower Hill station. This has a large horizontal sundial in a small courtyard outside the Tube station.

Wow you weren't kidding, that sundial is huge. I've been to London a few times, but never managed to see the sundial, even though as u say it's not hard to miss. Must have a look at it sometime.

Oh speaking of the London Eye I never got chance to go on it, whilst I was in London. Has any one been on it before, I hear the views, especially at night are supposed to be spectacular!

Well I don't see why not, I'm sure it would be great fun. Though we are going to have to decide who will sit with who in each little carriage car, as I think you can only have 3 people in any 1 car, though I could be wrong.

Oh and if u are after any planning help for the rest of Minks's stay, then feel free to give me a shout, and I'll help as best I can ok! :)

the Eye now I have seen some facinating pics of that thing. It looks amazing... I think you guys have a great idea there. Everyone attending should truly enjoy that. hehehe As for planning time with me, I think Robin will be rolling onto my return plane in a wheel chair as I will be thoroughly exhausted yet satisfied. hehehe

You know 16 hours after I arrive back home I go to work ahahaha crazy huh, well at least I will have a short work week ahead of me to recoup hehehehe

Okay here is an update on the plan. Those who can, meet at the sundial on Tower Hill at 9. We need to head to Heathrow by 9:30. Doesnt leave us alot of time, so make sure you have ticket to heathrow all ready. We head to the airport to pick up minks. The rest will meet up with us there. And there is only one place to go. All incoming international flights come out in the same area. Then we head to the albert for a lunch, then off to the eye.

Does that sound about right?

If you click on 'Booking' and then on 'Tourist London' it suggests a River Trip which sounds fab! What do you think? Anyone fancy a river cruise after the London Eye?

(Although you may lose your lunch on one or the other! hehehe. Still, it all adds to the fun and would make for some interesting piccies! :wah: )

River Cruise Experience

The London Eye River Cruise Experience departs conveniently from our pier at the London Eye. Highlights of the 40 minute circular cruise include St Paul’s Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament, Tower of London, HMS Belfast, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Modern and the Millennium bridge. Includes live commentary and a souvenir guide map (map in seven languages). Suitable in all weather as the boat has both covered and sun deck seating. Both decks are accessible for wheelchair users. Toilets are available onboard. Foreign language audio commentary is available in French, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian, Russian and Japanese. T-loops system available.

I was also thinking about bringing a bouquet for Minks, but its gonna get pretty bashed if we drag it around London all day!

Why don't we all choose a flower to wear (eg, a daff but please not a rose...too tacky!) and bring a flower for Minks. :yh_flower

Then why don't we all pm Raven with our names addresses and phone numbers, then she can compile a list and pm it to all of us. There are bound to be some last minute hitches on the day and if people can text each other they wont worry that someone has got lost, or whatever.

Then we could all send Raven a cheque so she could make a group booking for the Eye and the river cruise (or whatever) so we don't have to spend hours queueing! We could also add a few pounds each to order a HUGE bouquet to be delivered to Ravens house the day before Minks arrives, so its all fresh and lovely and waiting for her when she arrives home with Raven. Whaddaya think?
