Fear
Fear
Some have no fear. They live their lives seemingly without concern.
Some have some fear. They live their lives with caution.
Others live with a lot of fear in their lives -- unreasonable fears that are a handicap to them.
Which are you?
Do you think fear can be trained/educated out of a person? If so, how?

Yes to your last question ....
I grew up deathy afraid to fly and what helped me was a long chat with my DR about it being an unreasonable fear. As well as some meds to calm my nerves and frequent flights and soon enough I was able to fly ok. And even better alone now.
Secondly I was afraid of spiders and snakes, during my time as a girl guide leader we explored both of these, we went to places where we could touch and hold them, we were taught about them and after understanding and realizing I could run faster than either and that they really are not out there to strike me and kill me everytime I am near on, I got to talking myself out of my fears.
My advise to others with what is called irrational fears.... learn about them, approach them from a realistic view... spiders for example... most do not bite, most are more afraid of us than we are of them, they run to hide not to attack, and they are happy just left alone. Lastly watch them they can be amazing. Last March I had the pleasure of touring a bug museum and wow it was FACINATING I held a praying Mantis, she was gorgeoud and docile, I held a scorpion, a honed beetle, a leaf bug (very shy) and learned loads. Very cool.
I know easier said than done.
I still fear wasps but I know now not to panic and flap about and they won't sting... so far....

Fear
Do you think fear can be trained/educated out of a person? If so, how?
Yes Definately I suffer from GAD and Panic Disorder and I have done a lot of therapy and Cognitive Behavious Therapy and I live a really good life now where as four years ago I wanted nothing more than to die.
You just have to get help from the right people.
Some of the nurses and doctors over here saved my life and I'm very grateful. :-4

Fear
I used to be scared of spiders but having kids made me face the fact that I could not pass on my fear to them. I can't pick them up in my hand but I put a jam jar over them and slide a piece of card under neath 7 out they go in the garden.
I'm not too keen in going out in the dark on my own and avoid it if I possibly can.
Not too keen of great hights in an open area, but OK if I'm enclosed.
People can easily 'make me jump' and the grandchildren (specially the boys) are always creeping up on me and shouting " Boo"...little devils !
A smile is a window on your face to show your heart is home
Fear
I always hated that thing my uncles would do...
Wait till you are near an edge of something then run up behind you push and pull you back whilst shouting saved your life....
For a second you really think you are going to fall.....
They thought it was hilarious, until l grew some and started giving back....:sneaky:

Fear
Fears within reason are necessary to preserve one's safety. Disregard for things that shoud be feared will lead one to an early grave!:-2
It is possible for one to conquer one's reaonalbe fears, if one really works at it, & even gets professional help if necessary.

I think you can through phases of fear.
Sometimes a fear can stop you right where you are, until you overcome it.
You learn from it, and try to apply that to the next time something fearful comes up.
I am less fearful now as an adult, and through the last year have learned not to fear much of anything-but I think it was the old hard knock school way of learning how not to fear.

Pessimistic & negative thinking people seem to be the most fearful as well.
I consider myself to be an optomist, positive thinker, cautious, but without fear. I am not sure we can change either types of people by either training or education.

Fear
I agree with Far we all have some fears were human that's normal. How we react to them is another thing. As we age we become more fearful, why because we see the reality of the fears, be it gun, bombs, flying, spiders, snakes, heights, cliffs, dogs, cats, worms, wars you name it we see what they can do and our fear grows, sometime out of proportion.. Fear to a degree is normal I think..:-3
ALOHA!!
MOTTO TO LIVE BY:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

Maybe age has something to do with it Carla. I had some fears as a young man, but now, and at my age, I fear not.

I'm one of those folks who doesnt know what fear is. No panic button. Dont get me wrong, I have been in scary situations, but I'm never afraid.
Yes people can conquer fear.

Fear
The most debilitating yet silly fear is fear of the unknown. I agree with Lon in that it seems to come from generally negative thinking & lack of confidence - either in oneself or others. Distrust is taught, sometimes it can be untaught.
I have always been my most successful when I face my fear head-on, up-front, and honest-ly. Bugs & slimey stuff aside. Fear of rejection will keep a person from living a fufilling life. I have a way to reduce fear of rejection.
If you already have a job that's "okay" start shopping for another job. Since you have nothing to lose, pull out all the stops. Be brutally honest with the interviewer, except that you don't really want the job of course. Don't try to figure out what they want to hear, just say what comes to mind. If they reject you, so what? You didn't want the job in the first place and your current job proves your worth anyway. But if they offer you the job, now you have power. You can graciously reject the job, and should - at least the first time or two. In this way, you can build confidence and toughen yourself against rejection of all types.
There are variations to this scheme, but I wouldn't recommend dating one person while shopping around for a new girlfriend. :p
Another way to learn to deal with rejection is to get a part-time sales job.
