The pack mentality

OK, we have all heard this label bestowed on us before. The "pack mentality." Let's have a look at this term: When I hear pack mentality, I think of a pack of wolves, and their social structure and heirarchy. I think of how they live together as a group, form bonds, build families, protect territory and take care of each other. When a lone wolf comes along, generally, they are chased off, unless the pack is in need of increasing it's members, in which case the pack may allow the newcomer to remain on the outskirts of the pack until it has proven itself worthy of belonging. Wolf packs do not, as a rule, go out and pick fights with other packs. They hunt as a group, running down their prey, tiring it out and subsequently killing and eating it. It's called survival, it's natural and it's how wolf packs work.

Someone, (I can't recall who) referred to FG as a "gated" community. Some fit in, some do not. All in all, I think we are a bunch of normal, down-to-earth, easy going people who stumbled our way here and found a home. A place we feel we belong. While we are not as wary of newcomers as a real wolf pack is, we have seen enough trolling and flaming go on to make us wary of new folk. We have also wasted plenty of time on trying to make newcomers feel welcome only to have them post one intro thread, and POOF, vanish like a fart in the breeze.

This is a good place. It's got plenty of topic material, plenty of fun things to do, some of the best features I've seen on any forum, and if you play nice, people play nice with you. Sure, we have our "core" group who .....how shall I put this?.....try to help educate new people in navigating and general manners. It's really not that difficult, if you ask me. If you wouldn't act a certain way in person, why would you act that way in here? And if the way you DO act in here isn't condusive to the happy flow we are used to, chances are good, you won't be comfortable here. We are not snobs, but we are protective of our friends, we are not all geniuses, but we have some great minds here. We are not perfect or entirely forgiving, but we are also human beings. I don't care what the topic is, if you jump in and are rude, someone is going to call you on it. And then the rude person is going to dump the "pack mentality" on us. Well you know what? That p!sses me off. So we're protective. So we consider each other friends. So we don't allow unmitigated, unfounded attacks on each other. Ya know what else? IF that portrays a pack mentality, then I guess I can live with that. People could learn a lot from wolves.

I found this place by mistake & decided to give it a go.

I have been welcomed by everyone & decided to stick around & see how this place works,I am still a learner or "Newbie".

That is fine I don't mind that tag & can wear it.I guess I will always be considered a "Newbie" as a lot of you guys have been here a long time.I can understand why you may be wary of newcomers.

So far I have enjoyed getting to know all of you & I hope the feeling is mutual.

I don't get into debates that I know nothing about.So if I don't reply in a post it doesn't mean I agree or disagree it's because I don't know enough about the subject or I don't really care.

I will however stand up for what I think is right or wrong,no matter what.

I will not back down if I think I am right,I will listen to others thoughts though .

We are all entitled to our own thoughts.

I mostly just like to say hello & ask a few questions & go with the flow.I am here for the company & hopefully as time goes on friendship & trust.

I like this place & plan on spending some time here.:-6

I don't mean to be rude. I don't have time to search all the threads and posts. Was there a recent claim of a "pack mentality?" Could you provide a link to that thread and post? Could you provide links to the prior threads and posts claiming a "pack mentality?"

I like a six pack every once in awhile. Does that qualify me?
