Post by SOJOURNER »

The appointment is set for tonight at the Stadio Olimpico in Torino: among the most important names of the world of sport, entertainment, politics and the international jet set will be spectators of one of the greatest media events of the past years, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games. At the stadium 35 thousand spectators are expected, while there will be over 2 billion people glued to their TV screens.

By the way! Tonight the Italians decided that ice was too slow for the kinds of stuff they wanted to do, so they substituted white painted plywood and rollerblades! Watch out for a blazingly fast presentation with lots of acrobatics!

They still haven't announced who's lighting the oympic torch..possibly SOPHIA LAUREN?!!!!:D

Oh really? I guess I overreacted, then, I just saw her standing there in front of a microphone and instinctively shut off the TV in horror without allowing myself sufficient time to fully analyze the situation. It sounded to me like she was, though.

This is from MSN:

For the first time, eight women carried the Olympic flag: Italian actress Sophia Loren, Chilean writer Isabel Allende, American actress Susan Sarandon, Nobel Peace-prize winner Wangari Maathai of Kenya, and three Olympic medal winners. They were Nawal El Moutawakel of Morocco, Manuela Di Centa of Italy, and Maria Mutola of Mozambique. The eighth was Cambodian human rights activist Somaly Mam.

I just got through watching it. It was the lead singer of Genisis who sang Imagine. I also must say there are several new nations since I took geography in school. I had never heard of some them.

Well I love watching the Olympics, even the Winter version. Some of the events should be pretty exciting, but I shall still keep reservations about others, until I see them in action.

Just thinking that with all the problems that surround the building of our new Wembley football stadium, that is far behind the estimated finish date, I hope that this doesn't give us a bad reputation with construction delays in our country.

This needs to be sorted out, as all the construction that willl need to be done for the 2012 Olympics is going to be extense, so perhaps that is why all the early planning is going on, to avoid problems like Wembley.

Well I'd never watched curling until last Olympics, and it wasn't that bad, though I can see why a lot of people see it as pointless.

And if we are going to add lawn mowing to the Olympics, then why not add car washing. If that were to happen then I could enter and try for gold!! :wah:

Now I'm no expect but that sounds like virtually the same event doesn't it?? Couldn't they come up with something more original like snowball fighting or snowman building contests?? Surely that would get a larger viewing audience!! :D

Yep it would be a great addition to the Winter Olympics. Then we could all enter and try for a medal, though of course you still are going to have to practice that throwing arm if u want to win. Mind u seeing as how we don't get snow over here, I'm going to have to move to be able to practice. :)

Oh you are so right, it takes a lot of practice to master the art of car washing. So many people think that it's just a matter of getting a sponge and warm water and going over the car, but they are wrong, there is so much more to car washing than that.

Hahaha well we may as well add vacuum cleaning to that as well, or perhaps making the bed. I think we should start a petition to add these events to the Olympics rather than some of the drab events that we currently have! :D

Chonsi u are too kind. Would u like to be my coach and official cheerleader, then we can work together for car washing gold. I'm sure that I will need all the practice that I can get if I'm to beat Nomad. He's going to be fierce competition I'm sure!
