Hello everyone. I got fed up with my old forum and decided to "move house". Been looking around for quite a while and decided that this one looks promising. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hello baby ruth from Holland. Ive never met anyone from Holland before. Were you born there ? Do Holland people look like regular people ?

Do you guys do anything specific to Holland ?

If I passed you on the street would I go aaah.......a Hollander ! Do you wear clogs ?

I used to have a pair of clogs, I didnt think they were particularily comfortable, the wooden soles were kind of jolting. What is Holland music like ? Im thinking accordians for some reason. (We have an accordian player her at FG...Chonsigirl)

Whats the time zone difference between Holland and the states ?

Have you ever been to the states ? Whats your accent like ? Is it sexy like the Brits and Scotters ?

I dont really have an accent.

What are Hollands food staples ? Fish ? Im not a big fish guy myself, its too....well fishy.

You have tulips and windmills right ? I seem to remember canals. Did you guys ever get that leaky dike fixed ? Or is that guy still standing there with his thumb in it ?

Do you have to pedal to run the internet ?

You have indoor plumbing dont you ?

Ill think of some more stuff to ask you later.

Oh by the way welcome !

LOLOLOL! Answers: I'm not Dutch but British, been in Holland for 28 years.

Yes, I wear clogs with thick knitted socks for gardening, they are warm and practical and are always left at the door before entering the house.

If you passed me on the street you'd swoon from the overwhelming power of my beauty, I'm utterly gorgeous.

Popular Dutch music is unspeakably awful but there is an English language tradition in pop music which has produced some good things (Kane, for example).

Time difference about 6 hours.

Dutch food is pig's swill: it's called "stampot", which means mashed potatoes with a vegetable, beetroot, for example (!) cooked and mashed with it, served with a sausage or some other meat and fatty gravy. The great speciality here is raw herring, which is every bit as bad as it sounds. The mussles are good and so is the traditional pea soup.

Yes, I have been to America: 3 months in Nashville and 3 months in New Haven. Loved the South. Americans are like British people used to be when I was a kid: polite, friendly, civilised, hospitable and extremely helpful to strangers.

I have not only indoor plumbing but two toilets in my house, what about you?:)

And I have 3 bikes.

3 bikes 3 puters ? Or does it take 3 bikes to run 1 pc way over there ?

Yes we have indoor plumbing, I really like that about America, we are very lucky that way.

Tennessee is beautiful country, did you get to Smokey Mtn Ntl Park while you were there ? I certainly hope so. The food there isnt sounding very palatable. Beets and pig swill....well I guess you need 2 bathrooms dont ya ? What is the industry there besides tulips ? Do you ever get back to the mother land ? I imagine you must be a very stunning woman, I too am extremely hot. Hunkish really, kind of a cross between the smooth sav oui faire of James Bond and the prowess of a stealth Olympic athlete with a touch of worldliness thrown in. I could talk about me for hours ! Do you want to talk about me for hours ?

Do you have freckles ? I kinda like freckles. So the Dutchies, what do they do for fun ? You guys like to smoke pot and hash right ? Are you stoned when you tend your garden ? Does it look different when your not stoned ? Like what happened there ? Did I do that ?

Are you high right now ?

Do you often visit other European countries ?

Did you like American cuisine ? The southern cooking is simple but very very good. Why Nashville ?

Nomad, I was doing some research on Southern writers in Nashville. Loved the food in the South, when I could find proper traditional diners (far too many junk food places). Found a great one up in Sewanee - ooooh, and that catfish is just great, and the country ham with red-eye gravy! Didn't try the chitlins though!

Yes, get about quite a bit, going to Macedonia in the summer, lake Ohrid.

Yup, soft drugs are legal here, though people don't use them as much as they do in the UK.

No Smokey mountains, Nomad, too busy for sightseeing, a very tight budget and a child in tow.

I was working on the Southern group who started up as the "Southern Agrarian" movement and became known later as the New Critics: Allen Tate, Andrew Lytle, Robert Penn Warren, Cleanth Brooks, et al. I met Lytle and Brooks, absolute darlings, real old Southern gentlemen, just as I had imagined them, god rest their souls. They wined and dined me and I had one helluva good time!

Yea ok well it seem like in 3 months youd be able to get in your car and travel 100 miles to see some of the most beautiful country on Earth but.............

I dont get these people that go to Las Vegas and cant spend at least one day going to see the Grand Canyon !

What is up with that ???

Thats too bad its pretty awesome up there. Rivers and mountain streams, waterfalls 6000' up high. Wildlife, historic settler scenarios.

If I came to Holland Id be all over you getting you to bring me around.

Id smoke all your hash and lay down in tulip fields, Id tend to your garden with you and eat pig swill............but hey thats just me. :p

Nomad, don't be so hard on me: I got a miserly 3-month grant to do what should have been a year's work, had no car, of course, and had to look after my daughter and keep her in school; it wasn't a holiday.

I'll send you to bed early, after a dinner of bread and water (and without hash cake for dessert) when you come here.:D

Hello Snooze and Jives, nice to meet you both and thanks for the welcome.

Jives, I appreciate the links. I'll print your stuff out and read it in bed; just can't shake down to the idea of reading anything creative from a monitor, though I'm told that soon real paper books will be a thing of the past. . .
