Jesus said: Confess me before all men and I will confess you before My Father, who is in heaven." Few of us have the self-confidence to give a public testimonial (I gave a four-minute testimonial of my faith by the Tower of London, and it felt like four hours!) Thus said, I am in the process of writing a book (title above). It is a collection of private/public testimonials, and hopefully will be released through The Christian Bookshop or similar outlets some time next year. Any testimonials submitted will be of the strictest confidence, and once on my hard drive all such data will be deleted. No identifying information will be disclosed (not even a name, so in some cases readers will not even be aware of the contributor's gender), and no one testimonial will have precedence over any other - mine will be neither first no last. Testimonials can be anything from a couple of paragraphs to 2500 words. Once submitted, if nesessary I will tidy it up, and return it to you via your private e-address for final approval. Should you decide to contribute your ms. via my e-address, it would be of considerable help if you could put the the word TEST at the start. Otherwise just post it on the board. Thanking you in anticipation.

You may know MUCH MORE about the publishing business than I, since we don't know each other I have no way of knowing that. You are probably going to need to consult an attorney with regard to releases from your contributors, etc. Are you planning to pay them for their contributions? Have you found an interested publisher? If you self-publish, are you aware that in order to sell to bookstores you have to accept returns? How do you plan to promote the book?
Jack Canfield has made MILLIONS from the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and I wish you similar success, but please be sure everything is well nailed down before publication. And if that occurs, please let us know how to obtain a copy.

Thank you for your reply. Like most Christians, I tend to live in an idealistic world, which tends to fog out the technicalities/legalities side of things. Perhaps I should have put VOLENTARY contributions to clarify the matter!! There are scores of technical and legal problems to be overcome before anything gets put on a bookshelf, but certainly I cannot see it being advertised on a 4' billboard outside Smiths!
However to put things into their right perspective, when writing a book of this nature, there are two things that have to be assertained.
1. Is there a market for such a book? and
2. will there be a sufficient number of VOLENTARY contributers to make it a viable proposition?
(I am at present halfway through my first full-length sci-fi novel) and having been a member of a creative writing club, I am aware of SOME of the technical requirements involved in the publishing world. The Writer's and Artist's Yearbook cover most of the relevent matter.
Although it will be necessary at some later stage to seek professional advice, initially I feel worrying about the technicalities/tax/copywight etc. I'd end up pulling out my hair (what little I have). There are professional bodies out there to talk you through those problems, but at this early stage, I don't want to put the cart before the horse!
I have had eight "hits" from Christian colleagues, nowhere near enough to write a book, but if enough people show an interest, I shall persue the matter, providing nobody seriously expects to buy a cabin cruiser out of the proceeds! In the mid 50's a book came out titled Those Who Came Forward, about those who went forward during the Billy Graham Crusade, and it was from this book I drew inspiration.
Basically, I want to take it one step at a time. For the record, I wouldn't dream of expecting anything in return when contributing towards Christian matters. Again, thank you for your advice.

Further to your earlier advice, at this rate it'd be nothing short of a miracle if I managed to get enough material together to produce a magazine, let alone a book! With self-publication, definately no. If an ms. is good enough for publication THEY foot the bill, not vice-versa. It's perilously easy to get sucked into vanity publishing. Once again, thanks for your advice.
