My daughter, her boyfriend, & I all took the oldest grandbaby to a model search yesterday & he was picked!! The downfall is that they want $125 to do it. Daughter called the Better Business Bureau today & they seem legit. Not sure what to do, but daughter is head-strong & determined. He IS adorable. Has blonde hair & big blue eyes. The guy we met with yesterday told the head guy he's got "the look". He was so well-behaved yesterday... even fell asleep, while most of the other children were noisey & some were unruly.

All I can say is I sure hope this pans out! I had done this years ago, but didn't make it for any of the jobs.

I hope its legit.:lips:

See, that's what I'm wondering too, Snooze. They told her it's to send out brochures to the agencies. If I tell daughter no, she'll just get ticked. Thing is, she's using savings bonds my late mother had saved for her. I guess all I can say is go for it & hope it works. The guy told everybody yesterday that this isn't for big-time modeling. Just kinda like locals. Idunno...... :-3

this is not meant to encourage or discourage...merely my experience. and i expect there's a big age difference between boys ( is your grandson a toddler?)...when my son was 14 he was approached by a very good modeling agency in orlando. he was tall, gorgeous, blonde, blue-eyed, the quintessential surfer look. they also told him he needed a portfolio, which was going to be costly. they were serious about him modeling clothing, but told him if he topped 6'3" it would be all over due to clothes off the rack not fitting properly. i told him to make his decision...he was a big sports star destined for pro-baseball and he'd have to let that go. thankfully he said no to the modeling. (and topped out at 6'5" so it would have been a brief career.) ...this has no relevance to your situation, i was simply reminded of that time. if anything, be wary of the portfolio deal. $$$$$

Children's wear manufacturers, retailers and parenting magazines, in most instances, work with established modeling agencies in major cities. Do not ever pay an agency to find modeling work for your child - they're supposed to pay you. And do not ever pay anyone hundreds of dollars to take professional photographs as a requisite to representing your child.

I just called my daughter & read this to her. Let's just say she's not very happy with me right now.

Talk to y'all tomorrow.

Ew...OB1, please. If you can talk your daughter out of this, do it. I have been there, done that. My son was picked to be in a "beautiful baby" contest, and won a trip to New York to compete in the finals. This experience, even though he was about 16 months old, probably scarred him for life. The mothers? Oh, my God. Screaming, clawing, swearing, trolling, berating, humiliating, out and out fist fighting. This is an insane activity to put any child you care for through. It also promotes the already out-of-control "looks are everything" that so many young kids feel they have to live up to. This is a horrible idea, and I never put my son through one more second of it after the fiasco in New York. Tell your daughter, from one mom to another. Please do not subject your child to this. It's a cruelty that cannot be explained.

And yes, if the "modeling agency" wants him, but wants you to pay, it is NOT legit, period. A real, reputable agency will foot the tab, these people will soak you for everything they can get.

It's not so much that I don't want him to model. I did when I was younger. But I can't see her spending her savings bonds on something she doesn't know will pan out.

I called her when I left here last night & she was fine. She had also remembered hearing Tyra Banks say not to pay, that they should pay you. So instead, she's writing to Tyra & including a picture of the baby (he's actually 14 months) & asking her advice on how to get him started in modeling. I'm proud of her for that. FINALLY!!!! Some sense!!!
