Silence Is Golden??
I got so fed up with the internet system going into sixty-second compulsory shut down, I sent aol an official complaint telling them that despite their standard computer check giving me the all clear it was still happening. I further pointed out that these problems did not affect any other system I'd had previously, and that I'd probably revert back to BT. Did they defend themselves - NOT A WORD. I WONDER WHY?!
A box has just come up with the following info: "Windows has found 55 critical system errors etc. " it tells me to go into www.preregistryfix.com but when I do, I find it just a general electrical suppliers, so is this a con?

Could be a con just to get you to use their software or download something. I'd be a bit cautious.

I'm inclined to agree - with 55 critical errors, surely the thing would go bang!

If you run your AV does it check virus free?

In the beginning I downloaded a few things thinking I need them and if they tell me that I have errors then I must have but usually it's just a con to get you to purchase something.
I installed a firewall and some antivirus software and every now and again I still get problems. I just do a general spring clean and everythings OK again. :-6

Yes Ab - clean as a whistle. When the boxed info also told me to reboot my computer, the help icon didn't know what I was talking about, so I left well alone. I never had this trouble with BT, so I meant what I said: I might well pull out of aol. The annoying thin is sometimes it's fine, but only late at night - the UK is six hours aheah of the States, so I'm seriously wondering whether that's got anything to do with it. Like I said, I'm really p****d off about it, but I daren't do anything incase I lose everything on my hard drive. Some of it is priceless. I guess I should copy it onto a 3 1/2" floppy.

Yes Aol has that HUGE hesitation before it allows you to do anything it hang for about 5 minutes not sure why and be darned it they can help you.
If you want a legit Registry cleaner try Registry Mechanic excellent I used the free version for a long time and bought it last year great.
Also another free program that allows you to really take things out of your window start up is "WINDOWS START UP INSPECTOR" this will set your computer free and stop the unecessary running of programs in the back ground.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.

Many thanks all of you. I've spoken to people at work, and apparently aol have got a name for themselves - it's not complimentary! There is so much sensible advice here, too much to digest in one go, I'm printing it off so I'll be able to go through all the advice slowly and systematically. Again, many thanksfor all your advice. Like I said, I'm almost certain to pull out of aol at some stage.
