My bar = Soap opera

How many of you are "regulars" at your local pub, bar, saloon, watering hole, etc....?

Peg will probably jump in here and have a very similar story or customer, but there's something that goes on in my bar that drives me absolutely up the freakin' wall.

We have a TON of regulars, and there are 2 women whom I'll call Lynn, and Brenda. Lynn will hang all over the men in the bar, (any man will do) flirt, grind up on them, even blatantly make out with them, just so they will buy her drinks. She uses these guys. She comes in with no money and can stay the entire night, get smashed, and not spend one dime.

She's been doing this for some time now, but recently, she has latched on to a very good friend of mine, John. Now, I love John dearly. He's the kind of guy you could call in the middle of the night to come bail you out of jail, or get a ride home because you're too drunk. He'd be there for anything I needed. He's taking the week of the trial off so he can be there to support Bullet.

Anyway, she's latched onto him recently and I took him aside and warned him about her. I told him that she'd use him up for what she wanted, and then move on to the next guy without a glance back. He told me he would handle things and that he didn't mind buying her drinks. (He is quite well-off)

The twist comes last week. Lynn went to Arizona to visit her sister, and within a few days they got into a huge fight and she wanted to leave. She needed $650 to come back early. Who did she call? My Johnny. Thankfully, he told her no, and he came to me and said, "You were right. I should have listened to you." Well...Lynn got word of the conversation I had with John and now she is all bent out of shape and looking for blood. She won't speak directly to me, but she threatens me to other people when I'm within earshot. I again took John aside and said, "Tell your buddy that anytime she wants to talk to me about her "problem" with me, as long as I'm off the clock, anytime, anywhere."

Haven't heard anything about it yet, but this was only day before yesterday.

Now, this other one, Brenda....she comes in, orders a small Coke and sits there nursing it till some unsuspecting man comes along and sits next to her. She commences to flirting and paying all sorts of compliments, and the next thing you know....yup, she's drinking free all night.

These women make me sick. They give a bad name to any self-respecting, independent, hard-working woman. They are prostituting themselves for drinks. It's disgusting and I'd like the opportunity to tell them both just what I think of bimbos. (I may get the chance with Lynn!!)

t's been years since I was a regular any place but I have seen this

behavior before. Doesn't look good at all.

I have on occasion had men buy me drinks but I've also bought them

for men before.

Haven't been to a bar since Oct. 2001, too expensive! Took a friend out

for drinks, her bday, and I always like to tip well. Friend had a micro

brewery beer, couple other friends did, I had a "split" of bubbly, fast

20 bucks.

Eesh.

John sounds like a sweetie. Or would he hate me saying that?

Are you saying the owners "plant" them there? That's absurd. They are regular customers, just like the guys are. And if you start barring women who the men like to talk to, again, you lose customers.

I say good for them. If they can spend the whole night drinking for free just because they flirt with some guy then more power to them. As long as they know what they are doing and don't get themselves into trouble then I say good luck to them.

every bar has them br, its just part of the bar scene, the guys know who they are & what they are doing, in fact many men go to the bar for just that reason, bit of flirtation & attention away from the wife

I have too much pride to flirt with guys I don't even like to get them to buy me drinks. If I can't afford to buy my own, I shouldn't be in a bar. People that go customer to customer asking for money tend to annoy me. I usually tell them to leave the other customers alone and don't come back until they can afford to buy their own drinks.:-5

So what is being said here? If women are pretty enough to make "men want" to buy them drinks & the women let them, then that's really wrong? So, do either of them really get hurt in this scenario? Doesn't seem so. Both parties are consenting, when you come to think about it, where's the harm? Is there any?:-2

Could it be that you feel the men will think they have something coming to them from the women because they bought them drinks?

I'm trying to remember the last time I was in a BAR, been a very long time.

These kinda of women have been around since the first bar was built. I think they come with BARS. :wah: :wah: Bulid a bar they will come..

Back in my disco queen(as a patron) bar days.... And my hang out in local bar days..... I adopted and practiced the same rule from the time I was old enough to go in.... No stranger buys me a drink, for any reason, at any time.

This was my thinking.. If you buy me a drink, your buying my time. I am obligated to sit here with you and canno0tt walk away to talk to whoever intersts me. It was also very important to me to have an aura of independance and some class... even if I was in a hole in the wall local gin mill.

A horse of a different color is my friend here in Staunton... He is like your friend " John" very kind, very, generous... very lonely. Able to spend a lot of money. Ive known him for years. He will often not only pay for my drinks, but dinner as well. He will also often do it for 2 or three of us who are sitting with him. No making out or anything sleazy. Just a good time and a lot of laughing. In the past 6 months hes begun making a lot of sexual innuendos. I laughed for a while.. ( because I know him so well) Finally one night a couple of weeks ago I had to tell him. " Bleep, I am growing quite tired of listening to your sleazy and desperate remarks. If you keep making them.. youll never be with any female ever. Its great that we are friends... I understand that it would be nicer for you to pay for a dinner that will give you the big payoff at the end of the evening. Go for it buddy because Im telling you for the last time... its never gonna be me. I havent seen him in a couple of weeks. I do go into this restaurant now and then to see my other friends. But from now on.... I would never let him pay for a pretzel.

BR are these old women or younger women? Pretty sad existence if that is how you get your kicks. Guess if the men are going to continue to buy them drinks these pathetic women will go on trying. Though to see them night after night after night, it sure indicates how desparate they are.

I think you did good telling John the truth about Mz Bar Fixture. I hope she finds the balls to talk to you directly.

These are somewhat older women. "Lynn" is about 45, Brenda is probably 50 or so. My whole point is, when I go out, I can buy my own drinks, and tip well. I don't need to "pick up" a man to take care of anything for me. Like someone else here said, if you don't have the means to go to the bar and drink, you don't belong in the bar.

The harm being done question, well, it's like I told John, he's a grown man and capapble of making his own decisions, but I am going to look out for him and make sure he's not getting played. Men don't see things the same way women do. To John, he's just hanging out, buying drinks like he always does, and Lynn just happens to be there. When she called him from Arizona, however, asking for a large sum of money, he woke up and realized that she WAS using him and gave her a very firm NO. And then he came to me and said "You were right." I've been around bars and these types of women for 15 years. Their behavior, as I said, looks bad for all independent, self-confident women. It's no different than prostitution, in my opinion.

Minks, I hope she finds the balls to come talk to me, too. As long as I'm not on the clock, I told John, I'd be happy to have any "conversation" she wanted.

Yep you got it BR so very true. As well it gives some men the idea that single confident women in bars want to be "picked up", are desperate for a cheap thrill, are easy etc.

Oooo and they are older I can somehow just picture them. They are in every bar aren't they?

Guys are stupid, or can be stupid, throw a few drinks in them and they turn into complete idiots. Ive done the strip bar thing, but it didnt take long to realize I was wasting my hard earned money. Same scenario in a regular bar or club. Those women are usually pretty boring anyway. I dont have much patience for them. If your drunk and shes drunk my advise is be blunt, just get right to the point and ask, save yourself some $

I've worked in a few bars in my time too, and there's the perrenial sleazeball at every one of them. Sometimes it's a guy, sometimes it a girl. Last time it was the owner. She had slept with every single guy that had ever worked there.

Lucky for me two things happened before she could get her hooks into me:

1. My best friend who had been played by her warned me.

2. My wife came along.

I know EXACTLY what you're saying!

But I find watching these people fascinating! I used to bartend while in college. Some local dives, and some hoppin night spots. It's the same in both places, except the nightclub girls dress up more.

But the local dive girls can play better pool! The reasons WHY they do it are usually sad though. Mostly from a need to feel attractive to the opposite sex. But the nightclub girls are just young nympho's sewing their wild oats. It's an empowering behavior. I've found military fellas are the most susceptible if they think there is something in it for them at the end of the night!;)

I work with a girl who when she starts drinking can go from happy, to mean, to crying, etc. all within 30 seconds. When the boss walks in she really turns on the tears. He gives her all kind of sympathy. One night, I had way too much to drink and finally turned to her and said, "Oh boo f-ing whoo. Get over it!" :wah:

I'm also the loser magnet at work. The guy that sits there and drinks shot after shot of whiskey, has 3 teeth in his mouth always tells me how we would get married if I ever divorce my husband. I don't think so!

Then there's the guy that is slobbering he is always so drunk and he goes from wanting to marry me to having a wedding reception and honeymoon without marriage. Very attractive when they tell you they want to bite your neck as the slobber runs down his chin.

Then there's the one that "wants to go to the dam and pretend we are young again'. Ewwwwwwww :wah:
