Flaw found in anti-virus program The Age May 26, 2006 - 7:49AM Symantec Corp.'s leading antivirus software, which protects some of the world's largest corporations and U.S. government agencies, suffers from a flaw that lets hackers seize control of computers to steal sensitive data, delete files or implant malicious programs, researchers said on Thursday. Symantec said it was investigating the issue but could not immediately corroborate the vulnerability. The company issued a statement saying that its product teams were evaluating the issue now and, if necessary, would provide a prompt response and solution.

Word flaw threatens home PCs The Age May 26, 2006 - 12:44PM Home users have been warned to take extra care when opening Microsoft Word attachments following the detection of a trojan horse that can exploit a vulnerability in the popular word processing program. Although few instances of the GinWui trojan have been traced in Australia, computer emergency response team Auscert, warned that this may change in coming weeks due to the prevalence of Microsoft Word attachments. "Home users are most at risk from this vulnerability and it is definitely worth double checking any source sending you a word document attachment," said MacLeonard Starkey, a security analyst at Auscert.

Take care,

Gordon
