Whats The Worst Job You Ever Had
A student summer job in a nursing home for elderly people. There were three of us. The bloke was lucky and got the outside gardening. My girlfriend and I escorted old people to the bathroom and cleaned them up afterwards, we cut their nails, we made their beds, we held their hands and listened as they told us that nobody cared about them, their families never visited, and we were the only people they had to talk to. We heard about their ailments. We spoonfed some. We helped give them loads of meds so that they would be quiescent and not cause anyone any trouble. When 'Aunty Podge' went walkabout one day, I found her. Occasional respite was when we got to do the ironing or worked in the kitchen. One day I was told to pick apples - in sunshine - without the smell of age and decay. That was bliss.
I've had some great jobs since. That nursing home job was totally awful. It may also have been the most worthwhile one I ever had.

Pants, I hear you there. I once worked in an assisted living center for old folks. Most of the people were great, bit it was the actual job I hated. I worked in the kitchen. They served all 3 meals in the dining room. So, it was setting the tables for each meal (70 residents), serving the meals, cleaning up after, doing the dishes and then doing it all again for the next meal. You really had to move fast and keep up on it. The worst was between breakfast and lunch, the shortest "down time" to get everything cleared, washed and set up between the two meals. Plus we were always short staffed, making it even worse.

It is hard working in nursing homes, I saw 3 of them in action when my husband was in them. Not evnough staff, too much to do. Kudos Pam and Marie for doing such hard work which is needed. I don't like the chores I have to do at home for my husband, nursing wasn't my calling. I just had to learn it. Does that count as a job? Otherwise, one school district I worked for overcrowded the kdis, I had up to 51 in a class, with 39 seats. Tell me how I was going to teach them a thing, sitting on floors and tables!

I once carried the flamethrower for an asphault crack-sealing crew in Phoenix, Az. It's 115F in the shade and we were in the Intel parking lot with no shade and here I am blazing cracks with a flamethrower. We used to eat salt tabs like they were candy, then throw up at the end of the day and go home sunburned, dehydrated, and filthy.
Seriously harsh.

Whats The Worst Job You Ever Had
Probably the worst job that I ever had, had too be about 4 years ago when I worked at a daycamp on the kitchen staff. It seemed that every time I started a job my manager would come out and need another job done at that very moment. And man it seemed like every 5 seconds I had too run up too the kitchen and get another tray of food for a different age group of campers and then run back down.

Winchell Donut Shop had to be there at 4am to start making donuts to this day I can't eat donuts..

Working for Miller Brewing Co., in their recycling plant. For 8 1/2 hours a day, 6 days a week, we would sort clear bottles from dark bottles into their correct empties cases, load a conveyer with cans to be crushed, adn stand at another conveyer and feed bottles, according to color into different sections to be broken down into tiny bits of glass.
Do you know what loves to live in recycling plants where there's LOTS of stale beer and cardboard?
Cockroaches.
I could not walk into my house after a day of work, I had to strip down in my screened-in back porch and shake out my clothes and HAIR and rush right to the shower. And I always smelled like stale beer. Blech.

Two jobs would have to vie for the honour - luckilly both summer jobs paying my way through Uni.
The first, for sheer mind numbing, soul destroying, boredom was as a hydraulic press operator assembling two parts of a metalastic bush - by the thousand or you didn't get the peicework rate.
The other was working night shift at a meat pie factory - I still cannot face one of their pies. The hygene was non-existant and the ingredients disgusting. After an inspection condemmed a batch of pastry it was put aside to be dumped - until the inspector had left. When a tray of filling was dropped on the floor it was scraped back into the mix. Not isolated incidents and not the worst either.
Apparently, the cleanest food processing plant in the area is the one making petfood.

I can totally get where Pam and Marie are coming from working in Nursing Homes and Assisted living. I was dietary aide at an assisted living place. We actually had room service as well as dining room service. There's nothing like a 90 year old man greeting you nude for is supper!
BR, my sympathies to you as well, girl. I never worked at a recycle place, but you must have some kind of cast iron stomach, or will. I would get nauseous just loading them into those machines at the grocery store. Good Job!

Love your sunny av, by the way.
Do you know Jasper Fforde's "Lost in a Good Book" where the Cheshire Cat has transmoggyfied into the Unitary Authority of Warrington Cat, due to a change of county boundaries?

The worst job I ever did, was selling Posh designer bathroom suites to extremely posh people who had more "money" than sense
These were the type of people that had several bathrooms (just in the west wing), :wah: I hated the falseness of it, and you cant believe how boring selling bathrooms, toilets, sinks and accessories can be... (believe me)
I was only 18 at the time and I just hated it. zzzZZZZZZZZZZZ
As for Unkle Kram & Arnie... shame on you for not taking the post seriously enough.... hee hee (you made me laff though)
I also worked in a popular shoe shop which was great for getting dates but not very glamourous, smelly feet are a big turn off (pheww)

There's I think four books in the series. The Eyre Affair is the first. Really wacky stuff. A kind of literary Terry Pratchett. People either go insane with joy when they discover Jasper Fforde, whose own website is like unto his books, or they just go insane...

When I was working at a temp service in College I got sent to a uniform cleaning place. I was assigned to tossing rags that smelled like ether through a counter. Some of the workers enjoyed this task; but, it gave me the worst headache of my life.

I have had a couple of disgusting jobs. The first was as a toilet cleaner/attendant, for the local council. (this was in my young stupid days) You would be amazed at just how filthy some people can be. Some of the mess that was left behind would put animals to shame. Speaking of animals, brings me to my next "job"
I was inbetween "real" jobs so I signed up to an agency. (first mistake) They sent me to a place that makes "dog treats." The "factory" was just some jumped up shed. The treats in question were cow bones that have been bleached in an autoclave. They are then sawn in half and the resultant halves are packed with some kind of flavoured mush, the mush being a meal powder mixed with warm vegetable oil. Guess who was stuck at a table filling the bones, by hand? Yup. Lil ole me. But the worst was yet to come. They then went onto filling cow hooves, with the same muck. I stuck it out for three days. The funny thing is, all the "brain dead inmates" who worked there full time, couldn't understand why I wasn't willing to go back! The phrase "I would rather try to plait fog" went right over their heads. I feel sure that most of them relaxed by playing a banjo, whilst perched on a bridge over a river...

Selling cars. You have to be a lying snake (at least at the dealership I was at) willing to cheat people. I quit after less than a month.
P.S. If you leave a dealership thinking you got a great deal, you most likely got taken to the financial woodshed without knowing it.

The worst job I've ever had has been working for my mom. I learned the hard way that going into business with family is NOT a good idea. My brother and I ran for her first a pharmacy and then a bakery but both did not end up well, work problems became home problems and viceversa...soooooo that wasn't fun. At least I learned my lesson
