When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

This, the formal declaration of War against the British who oppressed, and burdened us with unfair taxation without representation. This Declaration of Independence changed the world in which we live.

Uh, Captain Ray don't we still have taxation without representation? Oh yes, we have the representatives but do they reallllly represent us? I feel like they do as they darn well please and answer to their political party and anyone with big bucks that will help them get reelected. They may have good intentions when elected the first time but they soon learn there are ropes to pull. Get it straight I'm not condemming our country which is the greatest but the higher ups that really run the whole thing. Please don't say, if you don't like it, leave. No can do. I'm here for the long haul and pray that we will some day have honest politicians. WHOOPS, just fell off my soap box. :-5

Good points all Bridget.. and no, I would not presume to tell you to leave your own country.

I thought it an interesting notion. This morning, I was watching the Presidents speech at Fort Bragg. It was a very good speech by the President.. one in which he justified our war in Iraq, on several levels. One of which was that Freedom and Democracy are hard fought battles that must be won. That Iraq now has a constitution, and a government freely elected by it's citizens. That the rule of law is being (albeit slowly) established.. and that the Iraqi people are now in the process of experiencing the freedom that Democracy offers.

Then Bill Crystal, in a brief dissection of the speech mentioned that the Declaration of Independence was indeed a declaration of war. I had never really thought about it that way.

I have never thought of it that way either. Our president does make very good, convincing speeches. Do I believe them? Sometimes, like this one , I would. If they are about policy involving our country--NO. An I am one of the losers who voted for him.

That's a heck of thing to say!! I am one of the "losers" who voted for him..

Twice!

I am not voting for him again though.. cutting taxes, executing the war on terror, no child left behind, increasing border security.. What a LOSER!! LOL

Yes Raymond he has done some fine things, that I agree but our country is going to h+++ in a hand basket because of that war on terriosm in Iraq and now his interest in taking on Iran. That is a subject I don't want to get into as its makes my blood pressure go up. I think our country is being drained of our tax money to help Iraq which is a far richer country in money than ours. Well have to go, my husband is yelling as we have to go celebrate our freedoms. Good talking with you. :driving:

Have a happy fourth! I have to get going too... I've got to get the kiddo' up to the college where they are staging the parade.. she's going to be a "waver" on a musical float..
