Sony Pulls Controversial Dutch PSP ad

Seems that Sony placed a Dutch billboard ad for its new PSP White and it got pulled for being racist. There is a picture in the article I am linking too. It shows a white woman, dressed all in white, grabbing the face of a black woman, with text about "PSP White is coming."

Do we have any dutch members here. Wondering about your take on this.

I think the ad would give me problems too.

I don't like it. It's kick in the face to all the hard work that's been done by folks that have strived for equality among races. :(

I agree with you. I would not buy a PSP based on that ad..and I would seriously reconsider any Sony purchase.

No kidding. I sometimes wonder what the ad people are thinking of when I see ads. i especially don't like ads where the people act in stupid and strange ways that regular people would never act.

I want to know what they were drinking when they put that one up. I mean did they seriously think it wouldn't cause offence? :-3

You might be able to accuse Sony of bad judgement but it's a stretch to say the ad is racist. And flopstock makes a very valid point. We wouldn't be having this discussion had the races been reversed in the ad.

Where's John Stossel when I need him anyways?

Absolutley. I would have been upset. I think its more that it shows aggression and anger between races. It doesnt matter which races.

I was just confused. One minute we are talking about racism and suddenly Christian fundamentalists and lebianism is in the mix. But that was a good move. It always pays off to disparage everyone's favorite "love to hate" evil fundamentalist no matter what the situation. The correlation can easily be made at any time. For instance:

McDonald's announces they are discontinuing their spicy chicken sandwich. Correlation: I bet those Christian fundamentalist were offended by hot breasts. :wah:

What's the saying "There is not such thing as bad press, just spell my name correctly what ever you say about me" The add is tastless, tacky and creating just what they want. They won't be able to keep enought in stock..:-5

If you hate the Sony ad, get a load of this Taiwanese ad for a German made space heater :

from taiwanheadlines.com :

The ad shows Hitler in a khaki uniform and black jackboots, his right arm raised high in a Nazi salute. Above him is a slogan that says "Declare war on the cold front!"

There are no swastikas in the ad, but the Hitler figure wears a red armband on his left arm with a white circle bearing the German manufacturer's name.

Shen Yu-shan of the K.E. and Kingstone trading company, which sells the German heaters in Taiwan, said the company designed the ad campaign, which began this month.

"We decided to use Hitler because as soon as you see him, you think of Germany. It leaves a deep impression," said Shen, who works in the company's planning and design department.

Shen said the company had not been worried that the public would have a negative reaction to an ad that features a man who oversaw the killing of millions of Jews during World War II.
