POTC - Dead Man's Chest
Am I the only one who liked this movie?
I actually thought it was quite good. Not as impressive as the first but I enjoyed it. And I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan. Sadly, everyone I mention it to says the movie was too long and completely boring.

I liked it but I think that it could have been a little shorter. The third one has the potential to be the best of the three unless they decide to set some kind of time record and make it the longest movie in Hollywood history.

We saw it last week. I enjoyed it, but I did think it was a trifle long. However, I'm not sure where I'd have cut it. I think the audience has to be of the right mind (not 'in the right mind) to enjoy these movies. Some people don't like absolute fantasy parading as historical fiction. Frankly, I love it! Gives me a chance to really laugh at something.
Did you happen to catch the discussion on Bill O'Reilly about the 'Christian messages' in the movie. Interesting..and he had an open mind. (I don't usually watch O'Reilly. He's my spouse's choice)

I thought it was great!!! It was the most fun I've had at the movies in a long time and I thought it was better than the first. It might have been a little long but it provided enough entertainment that I wasn't bothered by the length. Even my kids sat through it. It didn't feel like "King Kong" long -- now that was long.
Anyway, I thought it was great entertainment in the tradition of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders Of The Lost Ark".

Oh, Adam. If you want to see a llllllooooonnnnnnggggggg movie - go see "The Astronaut's Wife". I swear if I hadn't of fallen asleep I would have walked out. But it turned out to be a great place to take a short nap without having to worry about the kids waking you up.:wah:

Everyone I know who as seen it told it me it was fantastic. Nobody mentioned the length of the film so I guess it wasn't an issue.
I'll wait and get it on DVD then if it is a trifle long long, I can go and make a cuppa half way through. :wah:

Well, that's true-I always get up once. But I go once or twice a year anyway, it is logistics to get me there.
I haven't seen anything since Narnia and half of End of the Spear, so that is January or February....................

Oh, I used to go every weekend in the summer with the kids, to see all the sci-fi and comic book flics. I miss not being able to go, just for the time with them. I put up with some pretty silly films to go with them.
Narnia and Alexander where the ones I really wanted to see last year, they made sure I went. They know me in the movies, when things go wrong-like in Alexander and it is inaccurate in spots-I say so out loud.
Worst one I ever did-went to Star Trek Nexus one, where they killed off Kirk. I stood up in the theater and shouted out, "You killed the wrong Captain!" My kids were laughing in glee-they set me up for that. Of course, tha patrons weren't too happy with me...................:wah:

I can't sit still in a theater that long and my bladder definitely wouldn't last that long
True, the bum does get a bit numb after a while. I did a lot of shifting :wah:

I hadn't thought about it, but your right. All the man has to do is walk on screen and I'd scream "great movie." :wah:

Oh, looking good, Snooze!
POTC - Dead Man's Chest
The critics all said that the plot was overly complex with too many characters and too little characterization for most people. that's probably what's putting people off.
Personally, being a movie buff, I scorned the first POTC because almost every single scene is a straight out-and-out rip-off of older (and better) pirate movies.
The "swim under the ship scene" is straight out of "Captain Blood" and most of the other stuff is from "The Crimson Pirate." But since they rarely show those movies anymore, except on TCM, most of the younger generation hasn't seen them, so it all seems new!:wah:

SnoozeControl,
No, I haven't seen "Chocolat" - I'm so ashamed
I'm a huge JD fan but I haven't seen quite a few of his movies. I will say that my favorite of his is "Sleepy Hollow" though. I like him when he's goofy and fun. I saw him on Inside the Actors Studio recently and he said he chose to play the character in Sleepy Hollow as a prepubescent female. :wah: Only JD can get away with that.
BTW/I love the avatar

Yeah You should definitely go see it, BillyMadisonfan. I loved it when I first saw it last week. I think I'd go see it again because I want to understand the ending better. It was really confusing to me. But I won't reveal anything here for those who haven't seen it yet.
Just out of curiosity though, have you guys listened to the soundtrack for this movie yet? I listened to a few songs from there, and I was impressed with Hans Zimmer's compositional skills. If you guys have heard it, what were your first thoughts on it?
