I received an 11 page booklet called Ready South Texas – Emergency Preparedness Guide.
It reads, “Homeland security is no longer solely a law enforcement responsibility. It calls for a collaborative effort among citizens, corporations and the government. The next two paragraphs go into “threats from terrorists “natural and man made disasters “how to react during an attack and more.
The 11 pages are like Prepare a Kit, Make a plan – Deciding to Stay or Go, First Aid and Portable Kit to name a few.
Is this nation wide?
Do you have this in Europe or Australia?
I would gladly pay more taxes and let the massive military machine protect me and mine. Law enforcement is not able to protect me but will be in my face to keep me inline.
There should other pages in the book like:
Designate which family members should be assigned to the guns and ammunition.
How to bury your family members
Your thoughts?

I didn't get one here in Maryland, and I think if they had mailed them out we would have got one. My husband is retired from an agency under Homeland Security.

In the city where I live, the Fire Department has begun a series of disaster-preparedness training classes for citizens. They tell us quite candidly that, in the event of a large earthquake or other disaster, emergency services can be overwhelmed and that we should have an individual and a neighborhood plan.
They're teaching people how to do medical triage, victim recovery, create a neighborhood resource list (who has portable power tools to cut through fallen roof beams and rescue someone, for example) and basic first aid. I have emergency food, water, power supplies, etc, and know how to use them.
Speaking just for myself, I'm much better prepared than I was prior to the training and our Neighborhood Watch group agrees. We just can't expect the government to do it all, especially in view of what happened during Katrina.

I don't know if I got one or not, haven't gone and checked my mail today. 
but I do know the red cross in our area has been doing alot of training with folks in case of a disaster whether it be natural or man made. Alot of things changed in our area after 9/11. Valero has a refinary just outside of town, the highway used to go right by it, but now the highway has been moved where it's not so close. Security fences have been built and now there's security 24 hours.

I'm not sure what our Irish "homeland" security measures are, I think the authorities here are (probably correctly) a bit wary of getting the population involved in anything that might at some point involve fighting as we don't really need much excuse anyway, our experience of terrorism is slightly different to people in the states as we've had the IRA and UVF and UDA and INLA and various other people in ray bans and bandanas for many decades unfortunatly though they all seem to have gotten bored with blowing people up now and are reverting to politics, which is apparently more lucrative, also we don't really have many natural threats like earthquakes or volcanos or aliens (touch wood) etc, though it does snow sometimes and the pavements get quite slippy. They did say they were going to give us some tablets in case there was a WMD attack on England by one of the axis of evil coutries (such as France for instance), but I never got mine, and I'm not completely sure if tablets can be actually be fired from a gun.
My advice for really effective national defence is to spend more money on suprhero development such as the highly sucessful X-men or if money was really tight maybe Spiderman, (i've seen a couple of those U.S. documentaries in the cinema about them, most informative). I would think its a more cost-effective approach in the long run. In fact it may be imperative as I have heard rumours that the Iranians are covertly developing "Jihad Man" and his faithful sidekick "Koran Boy", but progress has been slow as the Israelis recently bombed the Fallafel factory where he was being tested. We are through the looking glass here people.

"Emergency Preparedness for Possible Acts of Terrorism Announced
Ready South Texas Program Unveiled for Tri-agency Area
Today, Mayor Ed Garza, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and Comal County Judge Danny Scheel announced a tri-agency emergency preparedness public education outreach effort called Ready South Texas.
This tri-agency effort was made possible through the FY04 San Antonio Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant provided to the three government agencies. The UASI grant was made available by the Department of Homeland Security, through the Office of Domestic Preparedness.
“Homeland security is no longer the sole responsibility of our law enforcement. Today, it requires the collaborative effort among citizens, schools, corporations, and the government, said Garza.
Ready South Texas’ mission is to educate citizens in the three communities, through public outreach, in appropriate actions prior to, during and after critical incidents, like a possible act of terrorism. Ready South Texas is an educational public outreach program and a proactive approach to emergency preparedness in the event of such a threat. The tri-agency communities are not under any type of immediate terrorist threat at this time.
"This is about awareness. We want to encourage residents to prepare and plan to keep their businesses, homes and families safe." Ready South Texas gives you tools and resources to respond to the very real possibility of an attack on our communities," said Wolff.
Components of the Ready South Texas program include:
Coordinated emergency preparedness website: www.readysouthtexas.gov.
Brochures and Pamphlets: Includes educational information regarding emergency alert systems, the significance of emergency preparedness plans for families and businesses, as well as emergency numbers.
All Hazard Emergency Alert NOAA radios: Emergency management officials encourage every home and business to acquire an All Hazard Emergency Alert NOAA radio, in order to receive civil emergency and weather alerts. The radios will be available at a discounted price for the Ready South Texas program, exclusively at HEB stores in San Antonio, Bexar County and Comal County. Both HEB and Midland Radio have helped to make the radios available inexpensively for the program. KENS 5 is the exclusive English television Ready South Texas media partner for the promotion of the alert radios.
Demonstration videos: Emergency preparedness videos will be available on the topics of shelter-in-place, evacuations, emergency supply kit needs and emergency alert systems.
Children’s Activity Book and “Tex the Shelter-In-Place Turtle: Educational emergency preparedness activity books for children will be available for parents and educators.
Special needs component: The program will include working with organizations that represent people in the tri-agency area to assess the emergency needs of people with disabilities.

Oh don't worry I find the attention most flattering, and it does seem true that women appreciate a sense of humour in a man, which is the only possible explanation for how woody allen ever got laid. I had a girlfriend from Clacton in England one time, she was one funny girl, god we never stopped laughing, well I suppose we did stop for a while when we broke up, but then we saw the funny side of it all. If you can't laugh sometimes in the face of the absurdity of human life then you are missing out I think. I mean if god had not intended us to laugh then he wouldn't have invented the duck-billed platypus for one thing. Now somethings are serious, such as football, but most other things are quite humourous especially when the governement gets involved.
