All real messages from ebay or paypal will have your user name in them, not merely "Dear {ebay,paypal} user" - the latter is a dead giveaway.

I was phished once by a bank that does not even have branches in my area!!

You'll receive a very prompt response telling you that they're checking into it, and every single one of my forwarded emails has been some ass hole trying to phish me.
I have also received a few of these emails.The first one I received looked so real I was ready to reply until I remembered reading a similar warning regarding phishing. I was Glad I didn't reply. A posts like this can be very informative.:)
