I could make a long list.. My Mom was not a very good cook.. She worked, and didn't have a lot of extra time to make tasty meals.. but she always cooked. I was typing in a differnet thread about my Mom and her meals... (now, don't any of you go and tell my Mom that I am bad mouthing her cooking.. She may be a lousy cook, but she is still my Mom.. and I love her!!)
Mom did pretty well when it came to basic meat and potatoes meals... anything that could be cooked in a crock pot Mom did just fine.. but on Sundays.. She always tried to make something special.. "Special" in our house was synonymous with "nasty."
Mom subscribed to "Better Home & Gardens" magazine.. and "Cosmopolitan", and a few other womens magazines.. she used these as her recipe finder.. and I am telling you.. women have a very odd idea about food that people actually eat!!
I like spinach.. raw.. or maybe just warmed a bit with copious amounts of bacon grease.. but Spinach boiled down to mush is just not good.. Mom has done every overcooked spinach dish that there is for me.. Spinach and peas, spinach and gravy, spinach in cream cheese, spinach with those little crunchy onion things.. Spinach!! I don't like it.. unless it's raw, and in a salad...
I like broccoli.. raw.. or just warmed over.. it has to be a little crunchy IMO... but broccoli overcooked is just plain nasty!! Mom likes the broccoli cooked to death!! What is wrong with that woman?! Doesn't she eat what she makes?
Of all the Sunday dishes Mom has ever made, that was just too terrible to eat.. it's got to be "impossible tuna pie!" Basically, what this is is canned Tuna casserole with peas and carrots baked in a pie crust.. I mean to tell you.... it's just plain terrible!! I wouldn't feed that pie to my dog!! I like pie just fine.. but canned tuna and pie just don't mix!!
I love my Mom.. and ate the freaking pie.. because I don't want to hurt her feelings.. but... YUCK!!
So what did your mom make that was really terrible?

Your mom went to the same school of haute cuisine as mine did.
My spinach was always warmed up CANNED and was the most gawd awful
stuff...
She would also buy canned cranberry sauce, cut one end off the can and
slide the whole thing onto a plate and then slice it into little "rounds"...
you could still see the impressions from the can on it.
She never had a crock pot but that didn't stop her from cooking stuff
to death... mushy just about everything.
Probably the dish I hated the most that she made though was this
overcooked zucchini-stewed tomato-stewed onion thingie. You'd
think we'd only have to suffer through this a couple months out of
the year but no, we had 2 freezers most of my growing up so there
was plenty of room to bag it up and serve it to you re-heated in
January, when it if possible tasted even worse than it did to begin
with. Of course I wasn't allowed up from the table until I finished
everything... so I did the best I could to hold my breath, and wash
it down with a big gulp of milk.
Mom and Dad thought zucchini should be picked HUGE, with all the
mature seeds in it, and boiled down to a watery mess.
Aren't you glad you asked?

I don't recall my grandma making anything I wouldn't eat. The only person who's made anything so appalling that I wouldn't touch it was my mothernlaw. One day she had this bright idea of stuffing hallibit fillets with chedder cheese. I love cheese but fish and cheese do not go together.

My Mum always makes Chicken Soup, I use the term 'chicken' very loosely here........
One day one of my ex-boyfriends called round, it was bitterly cold and Mum quite liked this chap so she offered him a bowl of 'chicken soup'. Anyway he ate it all up and said to her that the soup was lovely, thank you, but where was the chicken? Oh, the cat has the chicken said Mum. :wah:
Could never get it across to her that she actually made Leek soup with a chicken stock. I never ate the stuff it resembled dishwater with bits floating in it.
