Is This The End of Tom Cruise's Career?

Post by cherandbuster »

Hi Helefra --

I don't think his career is over. I started my own personal boycott of Tom Cruise movies when he started this ridiculous talk.

He is standing next to Mel Gibson in my "Do Not See" movie line!

But I think others will see him simply as a good actor. With good films. He may lose some of his audience (as he probably already has), but there will be those that definitely stick around.

And . . . where the heck is Suri?? :-2

I cannot stand him. He is a womanizer. And he is also a Scientologist.

 And Scientology is nothing but the workings of the devil. :-5

I don't think that his career is over though.

I never much liked him anyway...so it is no big deal to me one way or another.

Mel Gibson, though, I have usually liked, and I will admit to being more than a little dissappointed in that incident.

Helen

Even though that is the film for which he won his only Oscar, I did not care for it. I thought he overacted (which, I admit, he does have a tendency to do).

How about some character actors: William H. Macy, John C. Reilly . . .

I'm with Marie, I never liked him, never! Ok, Top Gun is an AWESOME movie, but I don't think he had anything to do with it. And like Tater said, he's an arrogant pr***.

But I always LOVED Mel, I mean LOVED him. I own every movie he ever made. i'm so hurt, I just don't know what to think.

I've never been a Tom Cruise fan. Only movie of his I own is Top Gun and that is mostly to see all those bare chested men playing beach ball and fly those fabulous jets. The jets are the real stars in that film for me!

Cruise never held any appeal for me and in past year even less if that was possible. He has some die hard fans I'm sure though that don't give a diddly squat about his religious affiliation or HOW many couches he jumps on

Slightly off topic...someone mentioned Tom Hanks. It started out I really did not like him as an actor, now he is one of my favorites...as is Robin Williams, in his more dramatic roles( hated Mrs. Doubtfire)

I hardly think it is the end of Cruise's career. It is probably just another door of opportunity for him. I actually didn't like "Magnolia" or "Eyes Wide Shut". Eyes Wide Shut" had no redeeming quality's at all...

Just what I see! First he was with Mimi Rodgers, and then started up with Nicole while he was still m, married to Mimi. Then he started up with that Columbian skinny girl while he was still married to Nicole. And then now he is with the other actress. I don't even keep up with their names now.

I do know that Scientology (or L Ron Hubbard's theologies) say that it is okay for a man to be promiscuous, but not a woman.:-5

Not in those exact words, but like that. I think there is a book called Science of Survival that was written by LRH I used to own, and he wrote about it in that book. I used to work for the "church" of Scientology. IT is a huge money-making sham.

helefra wrote: I have also read the book "Science of Survival" but have not come across anything of what you have said. There is a reason why confusions happen and the following appears inside any book you buy in Scientology:-
Yes I know about misunderstood words.

In the org where I worked, it was okay for the men to use women and sleep around. And it was okay there. Tom Cruise seems to get around.

Maybe it was one of L ron's other many books that I read about that, but I doubt it. I can't quote the exact words or the page I read. But I do think IT was Science of Survival that I read about the tone levels and the sexual attitudes. It is thought that men are "uptone" when they have several lovers. But a woman having several lovers is called "downtone".

The sad thing is...he used to be such a fox. Now he just seems like a big butt head. He needs to keep his beliefs to himself.

helefra wrote: How long were you on staff for? If what you say is true then perhaps you had good reason to leave. I can understand your aversion to Scientology but can I advise that you get "word cleared" on the book itself or at least try to clarify the point you are trying to make where you saw what you say you saw. You don't have to return to the previous church you were at, you could always go to a different church. It is very important to get this data clarified. You could ring up the church yourself and make an appointment to see someone, also you can voice your problems with the previous church to an "Ethics Officer" who will investigate it for you. Don't worry, this is not a trick to try to persuade you to join staff or start doing courses, I just want to make sure that the data you have is understood fully.;)
This would be impossible for me to do. I did actually "voice" my problems to another org here in O.C. But since I left staff I was "declared" an "SP" years ago. This I did not even know as I'd moved on with my life and was no longer associated with Sc. The people who were in "ethics" and in management where I was on staff, were evil, unproductive sick humans. They were nothing less than social leaches. And the ED who was there while I was on staff was eventually declared an "SP" by the Western Ethics here in L.A. She was a seriously demented woman. Several people were removed from staff who were the reasons behind my leaving. This was after I wrote several letters (not knowledge reports) to L.A. about what I knew. IT seemed to me, from most of the people who I knew from staff, that it attracts con-artists and ex-criminals.

As I said, I'd not wish that experience on my worse enemy. I have no enemies now anyway. And I am a Christian. Scientology is the work of the devil. Nothing more than that.:-5

:) There are lots of actors, actresses, singers, models who have "off days" and yet still make a living out of whatever it is they do. I feel that these people get paid an extortionate amount of money for doing very little.

The real people in the world that work hard for a pittance deserve the pats on the backs.

As to whether Mr Cruise's career is finished there are still people out there who will carry on watching his films and supporting him because he makes headlines. My hubby likes Top Gun because of the action sequences but he hates when I say it's a soapbox for homosexual comments. I liked Mr Cruise in Mission Impossible 1 and War of the Worlds. What he believes in is up to him but he shouldn't force it on the world population.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinions & beliefs but believe this when I say - we only get one life, make the most of it!

Thank you very much!

:)
