Thank you everyone, that's really thoughtful :-4

But doesn't it make you wonder when you start packing all of your "effects" just what it's all about? What do we actually need, and does it make us happy? i wish i could be a person who is content with just one cardboard box (albeit with "vomit" smell :-5 ) instead of the endless pile that surrounds me. It's different when you have a partner and/or kids but it's just me now...what's with all thses boxes??

I've been more than a bit of a grumpy drawers lately, grumbling into my beard about everyone and everything and shutting myself away in the arcade. It made me forget that this is a special place with special people who have supported me when I needed it, made me laugh and made me cry (sort of "healthy" crying). I won't forget again.

People will be drawn to you like a magnet and you'll make so many friends!

(If not just hit em over the head with your smelly boxes and when they regain consciousness act like you've known them for years!)

You've made me start thinking about all the things I could do with my vomit perfumed packing cases...I could become quite dangerous

I knew they had a smell. But everyone else was being so kind and saying "What smell?" when they walked in here. My son got halfway down the hall, just past the pile of folded cardboard, and said, "Mum! What's that awful smell...it's like vomit!"

He will be my first victim...I shall surreptitiously plant one in his van.

Just wear old clothes when you visit, Hammy...it'll take months to rid my belongings of the odour and it's bound to cling to visitors too.

Hi Theia....didn't realise you were moving somewhere so quickly. I really hope your new 'pad' is nice.

When I moved, I sorted as i packed and most of the unwanted stuff went to the charity shop. After I had packed I had 2 more sort outs....when I moved in the flat I had another. I've kept a few 'treasures' but kept it to the minimum. I sorted out boxes of photos...the ones I wanted are now in albums....the others are either chucked away or given to the kids.

I had kept all the kids '1st birthday cards' etc...they now have them.....all I can say is...YOU GOTTA BE RUTHLESS....

A lot of the household stuff I packed up for hubbie and I just took the bare minimum...I even gave him all the cutlery and more new stuff from IKEA...I just wanted a new, fresh start.

I think we are guilty of keeping stuff 'just in case' !!!

Storage has been a problem which is why I've been ruthless, but I got 3 x underbed storage boxes form Tesco which helped.

BE RUTHLESS Theia....leave the clutter behind...it's liberating ! :-4

I don't miss any of it!

Same with me....I don't miss any of it either, in fact if I cared to have 'another sort' through, I reckon I could get rid of a bit more.

The only thing I did wrong was to throw out some clothes that were too small......since I've been on my own I have lost weight and could do with those clothes now !

What a great feeling that must be!

My hubby is the worst pack rat I have ever met. He saves every single magazine he subscribes to

He *just* started shredding a ton of paper yesterday. The giant piles he makes were even starting to annoy him.

I can actually see the carpet in the corner of my bedroom now  :)

I think moving house can be as symbolic to making a fresh start...it is so easy to accumulate stuff!

I had to leave most of my stuff behind but I am now glad I did. I wouldn't have chosen to do that!

Exactly.

When I moved in with my husband, he couldn't believe how easily I would through stuff away as I packed up my apartment.

I told him I take the memories with me in my heart.

Hammie :)

You seem to be in a good place right now

I'm happy for you, honey

It's not easy to get there

And it's *definitely* not easy to stay there, either :-6
