My Halloween

Post by AussiePam »

Halloween is not big in Australia. It's a harvest festival, and we're in Spring, just for starters. But this year I managed to acquire a proper carving pumpkin and displayed its mad candle-lit grin on my front mail box. No trick or treaters came. But I loved having that pumpkin anyway.

But for me, Halloween means Samhain, the old pre celtic New Year celebration. It is the time when you settle debts and complete all old business. This includes setting aside past grievances and forgiving and accepting forgiveness. The past year is consigned to the Samhain fire. And the slate is clean.

Samhain, Halloween, the feast of All Hallows, whatever you call it, traditionally has been considered the time when the doors of this world and the other world are open, and loved ones who are no longer with us can briefly step across. I think those we have lost are only a heart beat away any time, but certainly for me I feel added closeness at this time. My eldest daughter, my parents, my grandparents, my best school friend, so many ... I woke up this morning smiling - knowing they had somehow touched me as I slept, and with love.

I'm on the road again shortly - and it's a whole new, beautiful day!!!

Samhain blessings to all in the Forum Garden.

That's lovely. So sorry to hear about the losses of your life, but glad to hear you were touched by peace, even if only briefly. Bless you.
