Films That Move You

Name one or two films that have crept into your heart or psyche that have touched you or moved you to tears or allowed you to gain insight into the movement of life. Im interested in why, what was it about the film or character that you connected with ?

One for me was Grand Canyon. I kept it with me because it was a variety of complex lives that briefly crossed and in that passing subtle or not so subtle changes occured in each of the lives involved. It was a combination of moments that through sheer timing caused an effect that either produced elation and joy or sadness and strife.

In the end, for as difficult as some of the characters journey,s were they managed to find a a moment of peace and calm and bliss simply by gazing at the awesome and spine tingling enormity of the Grand Canyon. In its beauty they all found one thing in common. That no matter how intricate the elements of our lives are and how we wonder from time to time, will we be able to put that one foot in front of the other again, the beauty of life and the gift of our breathe and the magnitude of the power in and around us, its all really quite simple and basic.

Our time is so fleeting. Sometimes all we have to do is pause.....................and see.

i don't know how corny this'll sound, but...

two movie that moved me deeply are Saving Private Ryan and American Beauty.

i went to "Ryan" when it first opened. i was in the theatre with nearly 200 WWII veterans.

MY granddad was at Iwo Jima(wrong theatre i know) but growing up all us grandkids would hound him about his experience in the war. we would want to know how many "bad guys" he had killed. he never told us anyhting about it. he would show us his old uniform, the different medals he had won and a bunch of pics of his buddies. until that movie, i never fully understood how horrible war really is.

several of the vets at the show were crying and a lot had to get up and leave. i was crying at the end of it too. as i was leaving the theater, tears running down my face, one of the veterans, a 2nd Lt from the AF, grabbed me by the arm. he shook my hand and gave me a hug. i couldn't say anything to him. all i could do was appologize to him. for a moment he was my grandad.

we talked out in the parking lot for a while. and i tried to explain why i had appologized.

american beauty was a great movie because it got me to thinking about how truly short life is. that movie got me to be more outgoing and silly. it made me realize that i had to go out and get what i wanted, not to just sit and wait for it to come to me. i became a more "active" player in life. (no, not that kind of player)

so, yeah...

To Kill a Mockingbird.............................

I think it is one of the most moving movies, in Atticus' fight against injustice. And the story woven around the children's characters is a classic time piece.

Mr Holland's Opus.

I always wonder if I have impacted people in a positive way. To see a guy struggle through life, thinking it a constant disappointment, only to find out what a profound mark he's made.

Makes me tear up even now.

I shows that hate can come from misunderstandings and misunderstandings from not talking to each other and just believing the worst from others in your own family.

That and I love to watch him dance!

I went to the theater to see Saving Private Ryan too, but I had to leave after the first 15 minutes. I tried covering my eyes so I couldn't see the blood and stuff. But it was the sound of the men on the beach crying for their mothers that really tore me up. We now own the movie on DVD and I still cannot bring my self to watch it.

many films have touched me, some mentioned here. but for some reason i always get a bit weepy when the w.h. auden poem is recited in 'four weddings and a funeral'.

Medicine Man with Sean Connery. The most wonderful and thought-provoking film I've ever seen. :-4

Me too..on that one. Serves as a reminder of how important the arts are in our schools, also.

I also cannot seem to get enough of Steel magnolias (OK, stop snickering). Just seeing the way this group of ladies formed this strong bond with each other....to get through trials in life. Always made me regret not having such strong friendships with anyone.

I think the film I have most trouble watching is Attenborough's "Oh What a Lovely War". And, strangely (I know no obvious reason for it) The Who's "Tommy". They have an almost identical feel to their endings, mind.

Terms of Endearment was a film I always thought I'd seen but it wasn't until it was on the TV a few months back that I realised I hadn't. I thought it was a superb film in many ways and it did bring a tear to my eye

You should see the follow-up to it. I believe the name was Evening Star. It's not as good, but it's worth watching.

Robert DeNiro plays a slave hunter who is converted and joins Irons in his mission. When Spain sells the colony to Portugal, they are forced to defend all they have built against the Portugese aggressors."

DeNiro's moment of redemption was heartrending.

Terms of Endearment always chokes me up - when those little boys say goodbye to their mom.

Oh God, that part gets me every time too. There are only a few movies that make me cry every time I watch them (as opposed to just the first time) and that's defo one of them.

The Grey Zone. David Arquette was Amazing. (didn't know he had it in him) I'd never known this part of the Holocaust b4. It took my breath away. The mental struggle for these men..... See it!

The Pianist. Adrien Brody... Powerful.

Pieces of April starring Katie Holmes. Don't laugh, this movie shows the struggle of an oddball sibling and how she tries to be close to her family. Very well done.

Don't Bother to Knock. Marilyn Monroe's struggle with mental illness. What she does to that little girl is Shocking and in these days, this movie would be rated R for that scene alone. Very disturbing.

Rabbit Proof Fence. The true story of 3 aboriginal girls who were kidnapped in OZ in 1931 and their remarkable trek to get home.

Hotel Rwanda. WOW!! Don Cheadle deserved an award for this portrayal.

I cried and cried....not often films move me like this. Anyone else watched it ?

Yeah I like that film too Bez. They changed the ending though which in your case is just as well because if it had been faithful to the book, you'd have cried even more.

Pearl Harbor.. I know alot of people that said it was too much of a Hollywood film to be realistic.. but it really did move me and made me cry. Its a sad story and it really made me realized how short life can be and stuff..

Beloved really resonated with me. I still can't see how this movie was a flop, it had everything a movie needs to be a hit - except that it was bizarre and crossed genres. Anyway, this movie made me feel as though I'd been a black female slave in a previous life, it cut me to the core. Afterwards I read the book, but something about the film made it be more than a story to me, whereas the book was just great writing.

The Da Vinci Code 2006..watching the film put a new perspective for me on the movie, since I imagined things looking and feeling different in my head. Seeing the movie allowed me to look at it differently, which made it exciting all over again. a good film which was related in ou beliefs and can note everyone how to find reality...

Aside this movie which makes me move, is the Outlaw film by Nick Love...interesting film which makes us emotionally touching...a real story at England where Nick Love give more efforts and spent enough time to make this film excellent and worth watching.. as what I observed on the trailer of this film, it has the potencial to overview the what does the story about and how to relate in reality...
