Feeding the food insecure

Post by valerie »

That's right folks, that's what they're calling it, not "hungry" any more!

Today my local paper started a series (they do every year for the

holidays) and they tell stories about people in need, and then get

donations from people to help out. Usually very successful.

Well in their story today, they profiled 2 families, I found it very

interesting and somewhat frustrating. These families had showed

up at a food bank and were given boxes of food. (Not sure exactly

how much they got.)

Family A: Dad is an accountant with KORBEL WINERY. :-5 Mom is

a stay-at-home, with FOUR KIDS. They picked the food up in their

newish mini-van. (Only had a pic of the back of it, but nice looking).

Family B: Dad is what I guess you'd call a junior architect. I think

it was his wife they quoted as saying "He makes decent money".

She's a stay-at-home with FOUR KIDS.

Like my dad would say: "Somebody's gotta tell 'em what causes

that"! (All the kids)

If I was Korbel winery CEO I'd be supremely ticked at this guy letting

his boo-hoo story be published in the paper. And that's just for

starters!!

Don't they have to show some documentation for low income - one in need.???

There are some food banks open to the public where you don't have to be low income. You can purchase what is called a meat box for $10.00, the meat box will have assorted meats then the food bank gives you another box of misc. for free.

so, if someone buys 2 meat boxes then they're loaded with four boxes of food for $20.00.

Patsy, around here there are a lot of places that you don't have to

show proof.

Unless it's government run like welfare or something.

So, this article is interviewing a CEO and his family at a food bank picking up his allowed lot of food for his family? no purchase involved?

A stupid CEO to be interviewed picking up food instead of dropping off food.

Perhaps you should write the newspaper and the CEO & Company to how can this be? Why? Certainly this CEO makes enough to feed his family.

No, I'm sorry, I didn't write that well I guess. The guy picking up the

food was an ACCOUNTANT at Korbel, not the CEO. I just thought

the higher ups at Korbel would be ticked to have anyone think one of

their employees needed to go to a food bank...

I'm sure there will be a flurry of letters to the editor, but I can't,

they limit you to one every 3/4 months or something like that!

I would have called it the "gastronomically challenged"

Insecure is kind of insulting.

This should be embarrassing for the Company -

it's not good advertisement - what does this Co. do? - produce?

and maybe the accountant really will need that food box.

Val - I probably misunderstood - some kinda syndrome

Maybe it's a statement on what the cost of living is like.

Telling them not to have all the kids might be a violation of their religious rights.

Ok. I'll be the one to say it. Don't have kids you can't feed and clothe and shelter etc. by yourself.

I don't care about what the church says. Let the church feed them then.

If Dad #2 "makes decent money" why is he getting free food?

I didn't see it myself but it sounds fishy.
