don't be mad, Pinky. The thunder's all yours mine are from a few years ago.
I've worked in a couple of mental institutions (making movies, though I was nervous they wouldn't let me leave). On one particular "no budget" the director wouldn't let me do my job so I decided to leave the set most of the day and wander around the institution with a flashlight. It was the old Woodlands Hospital in New Westminster, BC. (Canada)
The building was falling apart. They had to shut it down for a few years because of asbestos but I got to experience the place before that. Great. Anyway. Someone actually said "Don't go to the fourth floor, west wing. It's haunted." Duh. That's the first place I went. All by my lonesome with my little flashlight. It was daytime. Don't know why I brought the flashlight. Just seemed like a good idea. Anyway.
I get to the fourth floor - west wing. The hallway did a turn and as I entered the west wing I suddenly felt like I was walking through cotton. That's the best way I can describe it. Like a dream. My hearing felt partially blocked and everything was slightly slower like...I was walking through cotton. I turned again and there was a long corridor. I started down it and a room opened up to my left. I felt drawn to look into it. When I did, a scream started. Almost like an echo. It was so real there should have been a woman there right in front of me but then it was also slightly distant. I even had the image in my head of a woman in a nightshirt and two men trying to wrestle her into a chair. But there was no one actually there. I shook my head and decided it must be a car screeching outside to avoid an accident. I ran back to the hall entrance to look out the window, expecting an accident but there was nothing. The road was so far away I could hardly see it and there were no cars. But the noise stopped. The moment I got out of the hallway.
I walked back down the hallway and the cotton feeling was gone. So was the screaming. Just an eerie feeling left and a sense that a lot of pain had been experienced there.
The hospital area we filmed in is where they took children for things like hyperactivity. Then they were locked up there for the rest of their lives. I imagine most of them were crazy by the end. There is a very large graveyard on the premises. People lived and died there. In this part of the hospital, it was the children who never got to live at all.
It's a true story.

The closest thing I have ever been to that was when I was 22. I lived next door to a woman who had alzhiemers and she constantly talked to her dead husband.........or so I thought. One day she was in my apartment and I heard her husband looking for her next door.........she even told me he was calling for her.

ok, koan , i have the creeps now...........
have you ever been in a house and just knew someone had died a terrible death there. i have been in rooms before i can sense right off the bat a terrible death and pain. three times i have done this and when i said something the owners have told me about someone commiting suicide in those very rooms. it is creepy that i can feel the vibes from it.

ok, one time i helped my neighbors down the road to say goodbye to his parents. first one died and then the next a few weeks later. they were elderly. the second one was a mean person in her early years. i went down there and held vigil with the family and called the coroner and the funeral home when these people died. i have done this for alot of people. anyway, when the lady died i sensed she was still with me for days and days. it was so unearving. i have never felt a presence like that before from anyone that i watched die. i started praying outloud one day for god to guide her home to show her the way......all of a sudden my back door flew open and hit the wall. and i knew she was gone........i will never forget it. up untill that moment i didn't really believe in ghosts . but i do now. there are alot of things we dont really understand.........

The same hospital, we had to film in this horrid area that had asbestos literally falling from the ceiling onto our heads. The whole hallway was grimy and I didn't want to touch the walls. As it was narrow for the size of the crew, I ducked into this room that was even grosser....it had electric blue carpeting. Can you imagine??? It was horrid.
So there I am in this room and all of a sudden I felt the air closing in around me. I thought it was a psychological reaction to the carpet. Then I felt this pressure in the centre of my back. It started growing. Suddenly I had this intense feeling that something was manifesting right behind me and...man, it wan't happy. I jumped out of the room and didn't look back. The feeling was so intense that I seriously believe that spirits can cause physical harm if they are angry enough. Apparently someone didn't want to share his room.

I had to clean up an asbestos crematorium at a local hospital and got the same baaaad feeling. Some of these people were cremated in deep coma......alive.

I've gotta get to sleep.
Final bit about the Woodlands place though. That's where they filmed the tunnel scenes from Stephen King's "IT"
The tunnels were how they brought people into the hospital in the "old days". So that the public didn't have to see the comings and goings. One of the patients tried to escape one night and killed someone in the tunnel. Maybe more than one but I'm not sure how many. We were supposed to go in there but it was too tight so I ended up being allowed to stay out.

ok well from being young l have seen and sensed things.. mostly not scary.
I will tell you briefly of an incident with MRv though.
We went to a grave yard in town l used to live in to look for the white monk.
Now the legend was that if you got to the other end of this long path then you would see him. and there were rumours that he wasn't very nice.
So there we were at silly o'clock at night , we went in through the gates and began walking slowly down the path. Out of nowhere thatre came this awful smell and it reeked, completely turned your stomache and it was the smell of decay, and l can say from having worked in a hospital and have had to go to the morgue a few times, it smelled very like human body decay, a kind of sickly almosy sweet yet disgusting smell.
Well at the first whiff of that we looked at each other and our heads both nodded to keep going. Just afew more steps on and this wave of feeling hit, like depression and it was like we had to walk through water, it made you and the air around you feel heavy...
Being the brave souls we were we kept going all the while asking do you feel , smell that....
another 20 or so steps in and you could see the lamp post at the other end of the path..this is where we focused our sights.. then on a perfectly clear and calm night a fog formed and gathered in the spot under the lamp..
Yes we blinked and tried refocusing in case it was an illusion, but l swear that this thing began to take shape and at the same time we had a horrible feeling come over us..If we got to the end where he was than we were in trouble..
So we decided to do what we had been told not to do, turn our backs and go back the way we had come.. (we had been advised that this would be a BAD thing)
so we turned round and began walking in the opposite direction, we had only gone a couple of steps when we had a strange sensation behind us, like something rushing up behind you, and then an almighty bang on the ground right behind us and l felt that sucker through my feet all the way to the tips of my fingers.. I just knew that he (the monk) had decided to follow and was letting us know he was there.
We walked a couple of more paces and then gripping each others hand looked at one another and said at the same time "leggit".
The feelingsd that were coming were not nice, not fear as such though l will admit l was scared, but more an awareness of danger and that we had to get out of there now!!
there you go, all true and all in my memory for years to come l think..:-3

If I tell my tale of the ghost it requires a little background. Those who are easily bored should move out of earshot immediately.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
I worked for a while in Salisbury House Moorgate. It's just outside the walls of the City of London. It stands on the site of the second of London's four Bedlam Hospitals for the Insane which stood there between 1675 and 1815, moving originally from Bishopsgate, subsequently to Lambeth and eventually Eden Park.
The second Bedlam was the one famous for public open days. "For a penny one could peer into their cells, view the freaks and laugh at their antics, generally of a sexual nature or violent fights. Entry was free on the first Tuesday of the month. Visitors were permitted to bring long sticks with which to poke and enrage the inmates. In 1814, there were 96,000 such visits". Hogarth's "Rake's Progress" ended in that building, a scene portrayed in http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ress_8.jpg . The mixed ward for incurables was on the first floor (that's UK usage - around 20 feet above ground level).
The office I worked in was on the first floor too. After a rather volatile release of a computer system I was intimate with, I went back to operating for the first time since I started in computing. For weeks I ran the critical nightshift, 9pm to 9am, alone in the building.
During the day, with lots of other people around, it was an ordinary environment (except for sub-basement, but that's a different tale entirely). At night, though, it had a different aspect. The building grew, how shall I put it, noisier.
I operated the machinery from a set of six green-screen consoles on successive desks, with few occasions where I needed to step beyond that area. I used a single fluorescent striplight over them with the rest of the open-plan space in darkness. Working against an irrevocable dawn deadline I had every reason to ignore the repetitive paced creaking footsteps which came from the other side of the open plan office. After the first few nights I let them become part of the background, along with the muttering voices and the occasional bout of miserable crying. The only effect of looking round was to see a cessation of movement which may well have been a trick of the eye.
What I found hardest to shake off was the occasional knowledge of someone stood behind me, usually terminated by the feel of a hand on my shoulder or a tug on the back of my hair. I took to telling whoever it was to go away, I had a listing to debug and the batch process was an hour behind schedule. The most distracting incident was when the light fitting started to swing, the shadows made it hard to concentrate.
Were I to return there for a night, now that I've no call to be so focused on the work that had to be completed come what may, I could ask whatever was there (if anything was) what it needed. Fortunately, perhaps, I don't have access to the place any longer.

It would be nice to turn it into something like a book. You should start thinking of an angle that is new and exciting.
btw, one of the photos on their site looks like cigarette smoke with a brighter dot further on. Was it a cigarette? They should label the shots with some kind of description.

It's good to do it that way. I noticed that the observations seemed pretty independent. It would really suck to have one person say "I'm picking something up here" then another says "me too" and adds to it. Too easy to discard as if they built on each others' stories. Do you have to keep quiet too and just write, or do they let you talk a bit?

I think most people find him hard to take seriously nowadays, lol!
No-one need be scared, when you're in a group, you have each other, so it's not so scary.
Getting permission is a definate must . For one, you have access to otherwise off limits places and informing the police is a good idea, in case anyone thinks there are burglars!
Gosh yeah I wouldn't have thought of that. Intelligent ghost hunter I'd make
There is an old hospital here in Cork. It's the longest building in Ireland and they have converted some of it into apartments and some it is still an old church and old mental institution. It's supposed to be haunted. It's a gorgeous building though.

Wowee!!! When I eventually make it over to Ireland, I'll have to check it out, it looks amazing!
Yeah I think it's the nicest building here. I'm no expert at all though but from what I've seen it's my favourite.
Here's a list of some of the Irish ones. Some are actually really near me.
Hmmm.
