I was just reading my Sunday's edition of The Arizona Republic and there is a story in there that really affected me. I'll tell you, a photo really is worth a thousand words.
A woman who had been fighting breast cancer for two years was helicoptered to the hospital on August 4 due to medical complications.
She was 23 & 1/2 weeks pregnant. Only 36 years old.
Aug 7: expanding pressure on her brain left her brain-dead.
Aug: 8: Doctors mount effort to get baby to 32 weeks.
Sept 23: At 30 weeks a bacterial infection is in the mother's body.
Sept 24: Daughter Veronica Destiny, short of 3 pounds, is born via Caesarean.
Sept 25: Mother Veronica is removed from life support and buried in Yuma days later.
Oct 9: Baby is transferred to medical center
Nov 30: Baby goes home
There was a big color photo of father Aaron and Veronica Destiny (what a fitting name) and a smaller color photo (yet tasteful) of Aaron bent over the head of the bed, his hand touching his wife's head and kissing his baby girl, while crying.
A first I thought "God, what a tragedy."
Then I thought "God, what a miracle."
This man whose wife was stolen from him via this horrid disease, is left with a brand new reminder, a daughter whom he can build up to great heights, filling her with beauty and joy at the wonders of this world, setting her en pointe to fly high in her endeavors, in the memory of her late mother.
What a gift that woman gave him.
What a journey these two have ahead of them.
I am moved. I am very...moved.

RG, let's just hope he's a good guy and raises her right. It is a tragedy, and at the same time it's a miracle.

A paradox of life. Life springs from death. Little things like that gives us pause to have a big think.
