To celebrate the day that I have reached the grand old age of 17,000 days, the town of Tamworth falls momentarily into the national spotlight. The Lambs of non-league Tamworth take on the might of the Canaries of Norwich City in the FA Cup 3rd round. The match is live on BBC1 at 12.10GMT. The ground is only a mile from here and when I just went into the town there was unparalleled hustle and bustle. The BBC TV trailers are there, the cameras are on specially erected gantries and the expectation for a Giant-killing is palpable in the air. Ok , so we'll probably get our asses kicked, but you've gotta have a dream, right?
A Norwich supporter and his daughter approached me in the town and asked directions to the ground. I said it would be easier to give him a lift and drop him off as I passed the ground on the way back. He said he was a writer for a local newspaper and that I would appear as "a helpful local from Tamworth " in his article :wah: . You must send it to me Pinky, so that I can have my nano-second of glory framed
Do you come from Tamworth??? My auntie lily lives in Tamworth, I was over visiting her last year, flippin hell you might be her next door neighbour! Go Tamworth (but also go Villa against United tomorrow).

I've supported Aston Villa for 32 years, but as the Lambs play in the Conference League, I don't see my allegiance to Tamworth as a conflict of interest. There are strong links between the two clubs anyway. The Villa training ground is local and the club have looked after Tamworth in a number of ways.

Oh, I know, I know, I am all for tamworth now, cause of my auntie, they are great, I also support Colchester, cause I lived there, and the first match I went to they won 9-1, it was brilliant fun slagging the other sides goalie! Tamworth is a nice place, do you come from there Kram? You could do worse you know. What about villa tomorrow, do you think we have a chance? Is abbey going to the Villa/United match? She is a villa fan? United fan I bet, oh well she can tell us how many balls we had to pull out of the back of the net.......GO VILLA!

I was working it out, I went to my first game when I was two, and now I'm 35, so I've been supporting them 33 years!!!!! God, I wish they would win the European Cup again. Gotta love the villa though.

You know UK, you have it on your avatar that you live in Tamworth, and I forgot, god I am an eegit sometimes. It must have slipped my mind. I have only one complaint about tamworth, when I was there in the summer, I couldn't get a cake for my auntie anywhere on a sunday, which you have to do if you are Irish (get a cake for your auntie), so no cake in Tamworth on sundays. Oh well. Apart from that it seems like a very nice place.

There are numerous cake outlets on a Sunday if you know where to go. Not a bad town really. I was born in Birmingham and grew up in Sutton Coldfield which isn't far from Tamworth. Looks like we've started well. Just need to keep it up. I think the last match I went to was Villa 4-Norwich 0.
The first time I went to a Norwich match was the League Cup Final at Wembley in 1975 when Ray Graydons penalty was enough to bring to cup back to Birmingham

Where were all the cake outlets when I was there, next time I am over on sunday I will get some directions from you for cake, its important you know. Sutton Coldfield, oh boy, I was there a lot when I was a kid, and my sister was born in the hospital, but sure we only lived across the way in the vale, so places like Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, Chelmsly Wood, are all etched in my memory! Along with spagetti juntion, and the bull ring of course! Its so nice to have a brummie here.

This may seem a one-dog town to an outsider but we have an ASDA and Morrisons, plus of course Cakes'R'Us
I grew up in Streetly which was part of Sutton Coldfield until it was incorporated into the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall. Then I lived at a few places in Erdington, before ending up in Tamworth via Castle Bromwich, then Water Orton. All familiar territory to you by the sounds of it.

You are reciting all the names that were familiar to me as a kid, its lovely really, I have a big soft spot for Brum, espsecially that part of it that we come from, strange init? Still, I shall of course make a beeline for the cake hyperbakery in Tamworth next time, and yes it is a nice place, it seems quite busy as well, my English cousins are also buying a house there, it seems to be popular with the Brummies who want to move out of the city.
