Prescription Drugs

Post by Lon »

I am not against prescription drugs nor am I into Health Food or Holistic Medicine. Obviously, meds like insulin and thyroid meds are necessary to continue living. What bothers me are the number of folks taking certain meds that their doc prescribes and never bother to read up on the drug, it's side effects etc. Folks that just blindly do what the doc says. There are lots of folks taking lots of crap that in my view, need not be taken. Coumadin (a blood thinner) is one that comes to mind. Some may need it, but I suspect the majority taking it do not. We seemed to be beseiged on TV with one drug or another, and the commercial always says---------"talk to your doctor about ------Are you sad? Hey, we got something for that. Too Happy? We got just what ya need. Can't get it up? Viagra-----Toenails got that nasty yellow fungus. Wow ----we got just what ya need.

I took Zyprexa, an antidepressant, which was necessary for me, and developed diabetes. It seems Lilly Pharmaceutical knew this tended to happen yet they left it on the market. My doctor never told me about it.

I was on Actos for the diabetes til I studied up on it and found it could destroy my teeth. I stopped taking it immediately.

You really do have to keep on top of what your doctor is prescribing you.

They want to keep you just short of sick to get your money and if you're not sick, they'll offer ways you can be. Healthy people don't make them money.

Look at the problem some women have had with Prempro and breast cancer, and certain heart conditions. The lawsuits are flying.

Your views on this subject are EXACTLY like mine. So many people do not realize that physicians get kick backs from pharmaceutical companies for drugs they prescribe. Doctors are in business to make money, just like any other business men. Many doctors rely on people thinking that they are gods( my words exactly) and as you say, blindly swallowing pills. Two years ago,I was forced to visit a doctors office. I woke up with a foot swollen like a roast beef. Fearing the possibilitiy of a blood clot, I went in. I take no prescription drugs. Well, I left that office with his reccommendation that I go on 4!!!! different medications. #1 An aspirin a day #2 cholesterol medication

#3 He tried for hormone replacement therapy #4 He asked if Id like to have something for depression. ( just for the hell of it) Tests at the hospital ran me over 500.00 He never gave me an explanation for the swollen foot. The list of side effects for the cholesterol medication were unbelievable. I began taking plant statins, went on a diet ( lost 15 lbs) and started walking a mile a day.

Important side note........ Advil PM.. Not prescription... But still important. Ive been taking them sporadically. And loving them. Just read the list of side effects last night. Along with other potentially dangerous effects. THEY CAN KILL YOU. Anyone taking them... you might want to read up on them.
