I find it really strange that here in New Zealand when you have set a specific time for a gardener, electrician, carpenter, window cleaner etc. to show up, they never show up on time. They are never late, but they may come two or three hours early, or even a day early. It's happened enough times to be more than just a coincidence. Women on the other hand, like cleaning ladies, are always on time. How is it in your part of the world?

If you don't have a job that will pay in the thousands they don't want to come for small jobs. Even thought their ad says, "we take all small jobs." It's so frustrating.
Ah, New Jersey, my home state. I was born in Newark, lived in Paterson during WW2, left for California in 47. With all due respect, NJ is my least favorite place in the WHOLE WORLD to live, despite having many rellies still living there. Nice to meet you Kathy Ellen.

In Scotland, they appear at their own convenience (especially the women).

Guess I've been lucky, although I have called "no-shows" back to tell them I won't use anyone who doesn't honor commitments.
My friend in Mexico has mentioned this "no show--who cares?" problem. THAT would make me crazy!

Here in Virginia, there are reliable contractors, and unreliable contractors. What really annoys me is when an unreliable contractor is hired despite his being undependable. Sometimes the clients feel they have no choice. But for anyone who still considers punctuality to be an indicator of professionalism... the guy who is late without a call, or doesnt show at all.... loses the job. Which to me, old fashioned that I am... is how it should be.
