I look at most things with the "Today's Posts" function, I think many
others do as well.
My eye generally stays to the left of the page, scanning for the bold
type of new posts I haven't viewed.
It would be helpful if there were a way to more clearly mark a thread
that now exists in the compost pile, instead of just the heading to
the right of the page. Either an addition to the thread title saying
"Composted"... or bold type to the right for the compost pile lettering.
This would help to insure against accidental posts in a thread that has
been composted.

I didnt realize it was still in the compost pile when I posted in it. I thought you had to access it through the compost pile itself.

I think once you've entered the password it remains open without prompt again unless you log off.

I just double checked.
When you log out and back in again, you don't even see it on "Today's posts"
