Ahmadinejad makes America weapons claim

Post by spot »

می*شود و می*توان Agency Report, February 15th 2007

Tehran: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has claimed that the US State Department has been implicated in some attacks on Iraqi civilians in Iraq. He said he was "certain" that a branch of the State Department was supplying weapons to the Iraqi army. But the President also denied he was sowing the seeds for an invasion of America, and admitted he did not know who was behind the State Department initiative.

The claim, made before a Majlis debate over Ahmadinejad’s Iraq plan, follows on from previously unattributed comments from Tehran officials. These comments said that the American government was supplying weapons to the Iraqi armed forces.

Named officials have stopped short of confirming the accusation until Ahmadinejad made his speech on Wednesday. Mr Ahmadinejad said he did not know who had instructed the US State Department to start supplying weapons, adding that he was only trying to protect civilians in Iraq.

According to the Fox television network, the US already has given Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki light arms, vehicles, tanks and helicopters. The Bush administration has not confirmed that information. "We're looking at how to better equip those forces," US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice said in an interview on the channel, but her current role in the US State Department is considered so peripheral by Tehran intelligence circles that this is not taken to be anything other than posturing on her part.

I've heard that the Syrians are doing the catering for the war as well, all Lebanese cuisine of course, (they learned of those pesky French didn't they?). hehe.

The idea that you're the only one to recognize satirical parody depresses the hell out of me, you know that? Ah well.

Let's have a second shot at it...

US planes 'can attack Iranian ships'

می*شود و می*توان Agency Report, February 15th 2007

A US website close to the White House has said they have planes capable of launching attacks on Iranian naval vessels in the Persian Gulf. This comes as Iran has sent a second gunboat into the Gulf in a move it says is to warn America that Iran intends to retain a regional presence. Both sides have increased the talk of war readiness in recent weeks as concerns mount internationally about US involvement in Iraq.

The Baztab website quotes the acting commander of US land forces as saying that the US has aircraft that can fly long distances and launch attacks on Iranian warships. The commander reportedly said this would make the Iranians stay in port in shame. He added the US had all Iranian activity, including the slightest changes of the enemy, under constant surveillance. And the website also quoted the commander claiming that a US SEAL team had managed to put a stencil of Uncle Sam on the side of an Iranian fishing boat in the Gulf to demonstrate how insecure they were in this region.

There is no independent confirmation of these White House assertions, but they show how Washington is trying to counter what it says is the psychological warfare of the Iranians' claims of moral superiority.

Every few weeks there are new US war games, and Fox TV shows pictures of fresh military hardware like missiles and torpedoes being tested.
