I watched with facination last evening, a show on the "History Channel" about English prisoners that were given a chance to serve in the "Waffen SS". Some of the English soldiers had fought in Spain with the Facists and were staunch anti-communists. They were promised that they would not be fighting against English troops, but rather, Russians on the Eastern Front. They wore a distinctive shoulder patch on theri German uniforms that said "English Free Corps". I thought I was prettty much up on WW 2 history, but this was new to me.

Not just British there were Ukrainian, rumanian and other regiments as well, after surrendering to the allies with the promise they would not be returned to russia that were handed to the russians at the end of the war despite the fact that their likely fate was well known. It was part of the yalta agreement.
They also recruited amongst british POW's not with a great deal of success.
Joking aside hitler had a lot of support outside germany. Have you ever looked at who funded them? When you start looking at who funded them some of the names cropping up are quite startling, it's easy to forget that what he became was not immediately obvious. Best read is probably william s shirer rise and fall of the third reich, an american journalist who was in germany pre and post war.
History gets rewritten at the time it's often only later you can go back and point out where facts and actions have been carefully papered over.

In the UK there is a sixty year moratarium before some documents can be released, many from th latter part of the war are now open for review. Personally I thnk five years is enough maybe the politicians would not be such lying two faced hypocritical bastards if they knew they would be found out in their lifetime. If you say a thing often enough people start to think it is true.

Beheaded 'Nazi' statue statue should be left as a symbol of Irish shame, says Jewish human rights organisation, when it called for the vandalised statue of IRA leader Sean Russell to be left unrestored in a public park as a symbol of Ireland's Shame for staying neutral during World War Two.
Sean Russell spent some time in Germany during the war, acting as an adviser to the Hitler regime.
He died on board a German U-boat in 1940.
His supporters have always denied that he was either pro-Nazi or anti-Semitic.
They say he was pro German, only because that country happened to be at war with Gt Britain.
His statue in Fairview Park in Dublin was recently left headless.
Responsibility was claimed by the Irish Anti- Fascist League.
