I cannot believe how many handicapped parking spots there are now? Are we a nation that promotes having a handicap to get closer to a building? Physical Therapy has failed here...What about A woman who has the time of the month and needs immediate access to the rest room?

Yes I have noticed that also, even at work there are now several times over the number of Handicaps from a year ago. It seems the "definition of Handicapped" had been broaded, from a real physical Handicap to "stubbed toe" Handicap. Many more people now qualify for the Handicap tag! So the public parking lots have to be accomodating! And You're right many "open" Handicap spaces, hard to account for when they need to be used by the real "Handicapped"??.

Let's go back to the days when cripples stayed out of sight.

I have a disabled relative, my pet hate is those inconsiderate B%&&^^&&s that park in disabled bays when they are perfectly capable of walking.

I used to be a superstore manager, one of the stores i worked in at least once a month there would a queue of people complaining that someone had let down their tyres. It was an old guy in a wheelchair if he came along and couldn't get parjed he would work his way along all the cars without a disabled sticker letting down the tyres. He would sit there and challenge them go on hit a cripple, the police tended not to get involved and once the victims realised what it would look like if they went to court they backed down. It was actually a very effective tactic.

You'll get no arguement from me that there are plenty of people with handicap stickers who could walk miles with no problem. The thing is, there are also plenty of people who couldn't. When an able bodied person parks in a handicap space out of sheer laziness, their car should be towed.

Hey not only do we have handicap parking here we got "family" parking yep if you got a baby and a stroller you get privledged parking. But I like the "Red Letter Day" parking Idea. ahahahaha sorry girl that just really really cracked me up cause I bet all us females can relate.

It kinda changes your mind set about the handicapped spots when you are

with someone who really needs them. I know, I've been there, and I don't think

there are too many.

We also had a local grocery store try and set up spots for pregnant women

or with young children, and I thought to myself, but wait, it would actually

be BETTER for the pregnant woman to get out and walk farther. But they

took them down after a time, I think too many people complained.

At least California has hefty fines for people who park in the spaces without

a placard.

I for one am happy to be bursting with good health and physical fitness

and I hope I NEVER need a handicapped spot!

you know.. it really is a bit sad to be dissing on people that use the handicapped slots. As with everything else you are gonna find people that take advantage of the system to acquire a permit... just like people manipulate the food stamp program, welfare, etc.. but for the people that really need to have a slot closer to the store, especially in nasty weather.. I got no problem with it.

It sure is sad!!! It's another commentary on the sheer laziness of society. Are we so out of shape and slovenly that we can't walk a few extra parking spaces?? Sheesh, people, what's next? Griping because a blind kid's leader dog shed on your Gucci's? Have a little compassion, for God's sake. Sure, some people take advantage, and like Grey said, it happens everywhere. But for the majority of people who are actually in need, give them the spot.

You never know what can happen one day to the next. For all we know, one of us may need a handicap permit any time. It'd be interesting to see how many people that are complaining about the number of handicap spaces are complaining about the lack of spaces in 5, 10, 20, or 40 years.
