I have been officially diagnosed having left-side Meniere's Disease, a disorder which affects my hearing, (my loss is very slight right now, but as a singer, I noticed at once), and balance on my left side. Can't miss that aspect, at all!
The balance part is the hardest. I'm prone to sudden vertigo attacks, and sneaky drop attacks, where I hit the ground with no warning. Just fall right over. The worst time for the attacks are at night, in bed. I've fallen out of bed several times now. Ugh.
However, now that I know what the diagnosis is, and the prognosis is good, for now, all I have to do is follow a low-sodium, caffeine free diet. That's the hardest part, the latter.
But, we'll make it. I have proof of an actual illness, and can now plot a course on what to do. Life goes on, and so do I! Just adapt, and move forward.:-6

Sorry to hear this, but getting diagnosed is half the battle. I also read where stress can flare it up too. Seems to be that way with a lot of medical conditions. Good luck to you.

good luck , at least you know whats wrong, i bet you were worried for a while though

Getting diagnosed, in this instance, is nothing short of infuriating, because the bastard medical community has decided there's damn all they can do to even mitigate it much less make it go away. The only thing in favour of it is that it doesn't threaten your lifespan or disfigure, but otherwise it's a total bitch to suffer from.

Thanx, everyone. I'll do fine, once I get going.
My stink about an actual diagnosis is due to DH's SIL being a MAJOR hypochondriac. This chick gets every "new" illness, and it's made a mark on the family.
She's been cured of MS, (think Montel Williams), Parkinson's, (Micheal J. Fox), and myriad other illnesses. Now, she is stuck on having IBM. DH says she chose this one because she doesn't have to exhibit any outward signs.
BIL never went to the doctor with SIL, so she was always alone when she got these diagnosi.
Even with this latest, and the bad back/neck I have, I still get out and bust my rear in the yard, doing hard physical labor. SIL, never. And the difference is being seen.

Menniere's Disease
Thanx, Tater. The tinnitus in my left ear is pretty loud this morning, similar to the Emergency Broadcast Warning System tone.
That's the worst part, for me, is the tinnitus. As for the drop attacks, I'm looking into getting a medic alert bracelet, so I won't get arrested for public drunkeness. This illness can lead to people be mistaken for that, so I want to avoid it.

Just jumping out of lurkdom here:o
Sorry to here about your Meniere's. I had it very badly some years ago in both ears, and it can be awful.
I did have a couple of operations in the end which have seemingly 'cured' it. Well...it's cured the nightmarish vertigo attacks, sickness and looking like I'm drunk half my day.
No attacks now for 12 years. Happy bunny am I. Still get the tinnitus though and have lost a lot of hearing (I'm a musician too). Every attack seemed to take some hearing away
Very pleased I had the ops though. Gave me my life back. The attacks were at least once a day for a couple of years. Scared to go out. Scared of crashing the car, scared of being arrested!
Hope you find the caffeine free way works for you. It really is a awful syndrome, but I'm told even without the op, it can suddenly go as quick as it came. Hope this happens for you.
Right....returning back to behind my stone

Thank you, MistyRain! I'm sorry you had hearing loss, as a fellow musician. I sing, so I can tell any difference at once. I thought for a while there I was loosing my pitch, but a friend ran me through the scales, and a song or two, and assured me I still had near-perfect pitch. Since that was the best I ever had, not a problem.
I hope I don't need the ops, but won't rule it out. We had a luncheon after church today, and most of the foods were too salty. I had to content myself to noshing on a few sweets.
I did have half a coke this morning, and the pew was see-sawing. So, I know I can't do that anymore! Those drop attacks are the pits, as you well know.
I'm very glad the ops worked for you. I hope it doesn't come back.
