Should there be a survey or a test to join a forum? Wouldn't you think this information would help decide the appropriate people to merge as a community?

The people willing to fill the information out would be most interested. Ideas as to how people can communicate on similiar levels. The battered housewife, they would have a hell of a time, the smoke group, the professionals, i see forums changing to the point of an entrance fee? Town issues, can expand on this is so many directions.

NO

Forums should be for the free exchange of ideas. if you want other than this there are places to go. web sites just for people who agree

but that is not a Forum. It's a hooray for my side club. I avoid such sites wether they agree with me or not. yea you have to put up with some rude people but that's what the free exchange of ideas has always had to put up with. And sometimes what you think is an inappropriate statement wasn't meant that way at all.

As far as building a community on this idea didn't they outlaw that? I beleive it was called segragation.

The idea of discriminating against potential members is a terrible idea. It's not even really an idea, I think it is a reaction to getting your fingers burned...try a little aloe vera. (As your new signature suggests)

The key word is the FEE$ The ability to pay the FEE would keep the people with something valuable to say$ seperate from the poor posters. Because after all we all know " what you have determines how valuable you are."Sort of like joining a country club. A place to go where you will be certain everyone there is of your calibur.

Maybe you are being tracked by other users to see what little "gems" you come up with Paula.

I personally think your latest "Gem" is a bad idea, if i went on a forum in view of joining it & was asked to fill out a questionaire about myself or my beliefs i would click the close button. :lips:

I go on two forums where you have to have a photo of yourself... One is really tacky and there was another reason for joining other than to join in (difficult story to explain).

The other is very community based.

It doesn't have any strict rules to join except and this is what it tells you before you register... This is an adults only forum based chat site, therefore you must provide a valid email address. Any members who do not complete their profiles (including the uploading of a recent face picture), post in the forums, or take part at all within seven days of joining may find their accounts deleted.

There is 0 spamming, and no harrasment of any kind, if any of the females get copy and paste PM's then the member sending them is blocked from being able to send any more. As a female it is one place you feel totally free from lurkers.

No lurkers..no one likes to be tracked down and examined word for word, who the hell has time for that? I would assume Forums of people with Terminal Illness would like to know whos posting the truth? Forums are fun, you just never know what people will come out with? I would assume there are forums limited to people who participate in a certain field? yes, its coming... AA will probably have their own Forum at some point!

I was going to say that Abbey :D

When I say lurkers, I mean people who don't participate, or who just join places to send annoying messages to the opposite sex (I'm being so good here by keeping it genderless)... At the end of the day, the forum I was talking about had things changed to actually prevent stalkers, and I am not joking.

I have had a stalker online in the past and I know someone who had one who actually stalked them online and in RL... Now that is scary.

I don't have sex problems that i know of? This is an Amber thing, you could go along with the sex offenders and have them caught? There could be an Amber Peterson ALert system to watch sexual predators? Hello, whats bad about that, is this discrimination against perverts? To me the people who like sexual attention should join the SEX FORUM?

Testing is the near dumbest thing I've ever heard of in these threads. People don't figure out what they want to be involved in until they see what catches their fancy. You never know what is going to catch your fancy until it does.

Do you expect people to know what it is they are looking for before they join up? Isn't the idea behind this forum is to speak your piece and see how many agree or disagree with you! Just like you are doing now.

Next thing you know they'll be charging for the air that you breathe. Don't give anyone any ideas that'll...!

letha I'm curious, as I have heard the mention of "stalkers" on other posts. I don't understand, (I'm not that computer literate) if you are being "stalked" by someone on line, to get anonymity could you not just change "your Screen name"?

Forums cover many areas and subjects. For the superior person there may be forums limited to those with similar interests? Not everyone is geared to open opinions? This is an idea whether you agree or disagree is you i can't help that? How do you know there aren't forums for professionals that require pre-qualification? There are instances where people need discussion with out interruption of idiots. think about it!

What is a superior person? Who makes this judgement? If a person deems themselves superior they are showing inferiority. If someone else deems them superior they are showing an inferiority complex. So whoever makes the decision on superiority it is null and void due to inferiority.

I would think that when there are specialized skills and expertise in discussions you would find that professional organizations probably have and do have for discussions groups that require expertise in the areas that are under discussion. before you can get on line. Maybe the forum garden people would want to set one up... but?

I said both but the latter held corrections. The problem was with the program that I couldn't figure out until I had sent the corrected version down.

The CHARM of contributing here... is supposed to be no pre qualification for joining. Think about it... In the course of everyday living,I would never seek out the company of a 23 year old, I would never find myself with a group of nurses...

There isnt a chance Ill get to Africa... My Grandparent are dead.. There goes interaction with the wise elderly.. Ill never belong to a country club... And thankfully,Boy am I thankful!.. I havent gotten really sick yet. So... if the group here was limited to people, just like me.. what opportunity would I have to learn anything ?..... If one is fortunate enough to be smarter, wealthier, better traveled, more opened minded than someone else........ what better gift is there than to be given the opportunity to share... with someone less fortunate, or less

experienced with life. One pearl of wisdom shared can change the course of someones life. All it takes to participate amongst a group of very diversified people....................is a tremendous amount of patience... and a VERY LARGE heart. Im not the smartest person, what I have in wealth fits in the back pocket of my pants..............I work on the patience part every day........I do by the grace of God pocess the heart. CAN I STAY? My membership slipped through for some bizzare reason a few months ago...................................

Hello Paula,

I mean what difference does it make if the women out number the men of vice versa. I can't see why it would matter or why anyone would waste their time findng out that info. They may have a very good reason and I'm not putting them down just saying that I don't understand why that info would be important to them

kensloft, i don't grade anyone. i feel you would be a good candidate with your intelligence, as you grade people every time you comment? in order to help people with their mistakes, patience is important.

What if it was mentioned the average speller was that of a ninth grader? Would you have still registered here?
