Hotter than hot!!!

Post by valerie »

Last night lit a fire made from a little bit of almond, some oak and some sort

of fruitwood from my neighbor's tree... boy, it was nice to feel that comfy

sitting and watching tv!

Almond is my fave, altho a little messy... and the fruitwood was nice because

it was FREE. For some reason, I have lucked onto piles of free firewood in my

neighborhood, cut and stacked even! Guess people take out a tree and don't

wanna have a fire. Maybe some of them have converted to gas or something.

More for me!!

What do you guys burn? (Besides rubber tee-hee!)

;)

We have a gas fireplace with a remote control :D

big flames press up

little flames press down

off

on

Now I know it's not as romantic as a real fireplace... but it has the advantages of not having to bring in wood, deal with the ashes etc... I am noooo cinderella.

Gas for me too, i'm going to a cottage in yorkshire for a week in Feb, Ian insisted on a woodburner when we booked so i know just what sort of hol i'm in for, days trekking the moors (heaven) nights watching him build the hottest & biggest fire he can, with a manic look on his face, trooping in & out all evening muttering to himself about how we must get more wood, we don't wanna run out!! :-5

mesquite, Juniper, shrub oak, salt cypress, -Iron wood [our only hardwood], citrus from old orchards or neighbors tired of caring for them -orange, lemon

it's really "catch as catch can" in the desert, formerly from Michigan, i really miss the choices i used to have. Had relatives driving out one year, paid for their fuel one way in exchange for small trailer full of birch, apple, oak, and beech.:yh_smiley

We have a really short "burn time", and that often has "no burn" days due to stagnant air. And yeah, gotta admit it, sometimes we burn the artificial logs.

mostly red oak. we looked at gas but the neighbors down the road said it was becoming common for this area to be out of power for some days during the winter and we wanted something as a heat source that was totally self contained. with gas we would still have to depend on the delivery man.

would love to get some of that apple wood. love the smell
