Moving Again

Post by weeder »

1996.... The big move. In an unprescedented decision ( all time first in my family) I left the bright lights, and filth of New York City, and went to live on 112 acres, in the woods, in rural Virginia. Incredible adventure, unbelievable change. My courage came from having the companionship of a life long friend, who I loved dearly. Shortly after we arrived, he began to loathe my New York personality. He began to be drawn to the local female bowlers and bingo players, and eventually chose one to make his wife.( Thank God, it wasnt me) But anyway.... I moved my sons then 14 and 18 closer into civilization in the town where I am now. 2003.. the " Boys" both married, I went down to Georgia.. " For a visit" I stayed 3 years. 2005 I returned to Virginia. The bugs down there were eating me alive and I was homesick for the excitement of Bar B qued Chicken, Yard Sales and night life back here that starts at 7pm and ends at 9pm. It isnt working out. Although I will sorely miss our weekly big event " Shakin at the Station " I am once again planning on returning to Georgia. Yes, the bugs are big..... but I miss my friends who swathed in mosquito netting get together to do fun things.... and mostly what we do is laugh. It seems I am living the life of a Gypsy.

Not at all what I would have forseen for myself. I thought Id be married, in one place, for a long time. Making meat balls on Sundays, cleaning and shopping during the week... waiting for my " Other Half" to get home.( I hate that title) Kind of makes you feel like your broken and bleeding, while they are away. Anyway... whats your life like? Is it the way you thought it would be? Did your dreams come true? Or are you still dreaming. Im definately still dreaming. Of places to go, people I will meet. Wondering whats in store for me next. This move will involve getting rid of almost everything I own. I will go with clothes, some books, my paints.... and with a " song in my heart" Ive discovered the joys of travelling light.:)

Georgia isn't so bad. Of course, I'm a native Floridian, so there's a bit of a rivalry there, hee hee. I wish you luck in your move, and don't feel bad. Speaking of moving, I've packed up my household six times, and moved across the pond (the Atlantic) six times, once three years running, in '91, '92, and '93! What a PITA!

As a young girl, I read about places in Italy, Spain, France, and thought I'd like to visit them one day. However, where I grew up, I knew my chances were slim to none. I settled for thinking I wanted to marry a local yokel, (a chicken farmer at that!), and kids.

Alas, the chicken farmer knocked up a friend of ours, and I was let off the hook. Hooray! I entered college, and had dreams of teaching. I was going places with my personal life.

Then, DH came onto the scene, and that derailed my education! :-4 We married, I worked, with dreams of going back to college to finish my degree, and then we started moving, courtesy of the US Navy. I got to visit the places I'd read about when I was younger, and more. I'm so satisified with how my life turned out. Yes, there were one or two bumps in the road, and the kids never did materalize, due to health problems for both of us. :-1 Instead, we help out with our nieces and nephews, and have one of them living with us. (She's in her early twenties.)

But, we're happy, still in love, and fighting over how to remodel the house we bought a year ago. Life is good, and we're having a blast! :guitarist

Funnily enough, we live directly across the street from a university and a tech college. I don't want to go back now. Go figure!:wah:
